LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />March 1, 1999 <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL - 6:30 PM <br />Present: Abse Also Present: <br />Don McCuish Maryanne Macdonald Gus Frederick <br />Scott Chausse Pat Antonellis <br />Pat Riley Wayne Taylor <br />I. Q12enin : Pat Riley opened the meeting at 4:55 PM. <br />II Minutes - Scott Chausse approved February Minutes. Don McCuish seconded. <br />Motion carried. <br />III Communication -Gus Frederick discussed the 21" Century Learning Center Granr- <br />$605,000 per year over three years. This would be for After school, Before School, <br />Summer School, keeping building open, After school child care, enrichment <br />programs, and summer programs. This is an annual grant. We felt we could put in a <br />good Grant Application. Trish Parolski signed, and we made the deadline. We will <br />hear by the end of May. Collaborative among Leisure Services, the school, Tribal <br />Council, Boys and Girls Club, Youth Center. We wish we could have provided a <br />better picture in our narrative. We can apply next year again. Pat Riley asked if <br />anyone from the Town did grants. Gus explained that we had a person doing Grants, <br />but she is on maternity leave. <br />Don McCuish asked if we could lobby our local Reps. Gus mentioned that he would <br />speak with Nancy Caffyn. A discussion on the Grant took place. <br />IV Old Business - New Advisory Council Members - Waiting to hear from selectmen. <br />They put in a short notice in the paper. Program Updates - A discussion on current <br />programs took place. <br />Special Needs - Gus mentioned that he would meet with Grace Day regarding <br />Special Olympics. Scott Chausse will send information to Grace Day to introduce the <br />process. <br />Summer Planning - A discussion took place on programs that would be running, i.e., <br />lacrosse, swim lessons, golf, soccer. May offer enrichment programs such as <br />computers. <br />V New Business - Don McCuish and Gus Frederick discussed running a playground <br />program at one location for ages 10 to 13 or 14 year olds. Don McCuish would like <br />this program to be for a couple of hours and to be free. Gus estimated cost to be <br />about $6,000. <br />
