/Y!
.^ 1t
HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MINUTES
• MONDAY, NOVEMBER 29 , 1993
TOWN HALL
Present: Bill Jones, Peter Dinizio, Steve Greelish, Bill
Martiros, Joe Polito, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Paul Griffin , Janice
Mills, Tom Fudala, Dr. Lincoln DeMoura
Carl Franceschi and Paul Writtenbury, DRA
Meeting convened at 5 : 50 p.m.
The Committee met with architect, Carl Franceschi to continue
discussion of revising the matrix .
Endangered Species: There are 3 endangered species on the site.
Mr. Franceschi said , in his opinion this does not exempt the
site. Tom added it would require more study and make the process
more complicated.
Cost of water line: Mr. Franceschi ' s original estimate from the
water district was $260 ,000 . Mr. Rich said it was likely the
water district would share a portion of the cost, reducing it to
$75 , 000 . Mr. Rich recently gave the Committee a revised estimate
of $197 , 000 to run the main as part of the school project. If
the work was not done in conjunction with the school , it would
cost $215 , 000.
Site development costs: Mr . Franceschi ' s estimated a $300 , 00
premium for the Center site including the water main, earthwork
and treating the old dump site. These costs would be reimbursed
by the State. The Committee agreed to list the premium costs at
each site.
Traffic: Mr. Franceschi explained the center site will generate
less traffic, overall . That should be referenced in the matrix.
Tom developed adjusted figures for 1 , 000 students , as opposed to
1350 students. He noted the report shows the same number of
vehicle trips in and out at each site , it does not take into
account walking at either site - they have not done that
analysis.
Topography : Mr. Greelish thinks there is a cost advantage for
the 151 site. This is addressed in site development costs .
The Committee agrees with this statement.
Wetlands: Tom presented a map of the wetlands in his handout.
Mr. Franceschi will show it more clearly on the plan and show the
buffer. They recommend excluding the bog parcel from the taking
but it will be shown on the entire site.
Is there enough land north of Hollow Rd to put a high school ?
• Mr. Franceschi said there is - about 95 acres. It would alter
1
