Meetings : Ian believes it is important to project a full range of meetings
from now to the end of the design phase . It is easier to cancel a meeting
than to schedule one at the last minute.
Peter explained the Town Treasurer told him cash will not be available to
pay SMMA and Chartwell until July 1 .
REPORT FROM ARCHITECT: PROGRAMMING
Since the last meeting , Mr. Frenette has made some changes :
- changed the title and removed the "Junior" .
- changed the budget to $26 , 566 , 225 . There is no reference to the land .
- deleted Indian Education and Library classroom as teaching stations.
Collaborative Ed . should go into one of the houses .
- Biggest changes is the inclusion of references to the community
facilities in the text. It does not however represent a big modification of
the program.
Mr . Frenette presented an agenda of items they would like to talk about.
- Performing Arts Center and Future Elementary School - what is their
charge relative to the whole piece of property? Is the PAC flexible ,
moveable or not? Is the elementary school part of this master planning
effort? If so., what is it' s size? Is this site lead by where the PAC goes?
Peter stated they should use the site to fulfill the high school program
first and then see if the PAC fits. The Committee ' s primary goal is to the
high school .
Mr. Frenette said the PAC planning to date represents a commitment to a
piece of the site - do we honor that or is it flexible?
Tom reminded everyone the PAC siting has not been reviewed by any agencies.
There is a major problem with their planned access .
Merry Sue stated the Town has the authority , from the town meeting vote , to
take the entire 200 acres . The Committee needs to know how much to buy for
the high school . The elementary school is not still in the mix . The only
piece left over is nearest to the power lines. The siting of the elementary
school is a distant third . The prior Committee chose these 2 sites because
they were large enough to house a high school and elementary school - but
not the two schools and a performing arts center.
Mr. Frenette said the elementary school has to be either in or out -you
have to plan for it. There won ' t be a nice piece left over for the
elementary school to fit in .
Tom Fudala does not think all 3 would fit on the site. The idea, when
choosing the sites , was for elementary and high school , with no thought to
the PAC . This site was way down on the list of proposed elementary school
sites. His opinion would be not to consider an elementary school on this
site .
** Merry Sue made a motion to instruction the architects, when looking
at the site , not to plan for a future elementary school . The usage
of the site is High School first with possible performing arts
center in the future and coordinate the placement of these 2
buildings and review the main entrances into these two sites for
possible shared facilities ( roadway) . Janice seconded the motion .
2
