Bill Martiros would like to see adequate access off of the lobby for all
after school activities, including classroom space .
Ray said with a postage stamp design , you can get more efficient, make it
smaller and smaller , with no windows in some classrooms but there are still
1 , 000 kids there with no where to go because it is so tight and too
condensed .
Peter likes the central location of the administration.
Janice likes the location of the media center.
Mark asked the Committee if they like the idea of the cafeteria being part
of the lobby , or prefer an area where you just eat?
Greg Taylor likes the openness, it is a more comfortable space and it could
have other ancillary uses .
Committee members described to the architects the cafeteria space as South
Plymouth high school . It is an open space but the cafeteria area is a
sunken space .
Janice said something like that would answer her concern about having to
walk through the cafeteria, if you could go around it.
Ray said they will work on it.
Tom said moving the cafeteria up , near the lobby , there will be the noise
issue to deal with and odor is a problem.
SITE LAYOUT
Dan Saliene presented the various site layouts prepared .
#1 - was prepared for this building plan and borrows a lot form the 2 other
plans .
Drop off point near the main entrance for guests and short term parking .
Greatest area of parking , for 400 cars , is easy to get in and out form Old
Barnstable Rd , will accommodate teachers and visitors . Easy flow to each
field from the gym lockers . Tennis courts are very accessible to the
community with parking adjacent to them. Bus loading is to the rear of the
building.
The football field has an east west orientation , not the traditional north
south . Dan spoke with the Falmouth Athletics Director who said games are
primarily played at night, sun is less important. The baseball/softball
fields are an appropriate transitional use between the river and the
building .
The plan shows access to the performing arts center on Old Barnstable Rd ,
300 ft past the high school entrance . It is shown more south east than
where their plan shows it.
Bill Martiros said we don ' t need another massive building on 151 , could it
be moved back further from 151 ? . Noise will also be an issue .
Mark agreed the building should be further back from 151 .
Greg Taylor is also concerned about the distance from 151 . The Stop and
Shop building is 300 feet from 151 but looks like it is right on you . He
likes the general layout. There should be some parking near the fields ,
for parents who want to stay in their cars .
Ray said Perkins and Will does not recommend you put the football field
East West.
Merry Sue added this is not just a football field , soccer field hockey , etc
4
