Joe said Graham Gund is extremely creative and imaginative. He is a pace <br /> setter. We can ' t afford to do that. We have to put money into the inside <br /> of the building. He does not think Graham Gund understands the school <br /> program- rather he could understand any program but how would he interpret <br /> it. Joe does not think he would negate his style and we can ' t afford that. <br /> Steve agrees with Bill Martiros . Originally he thought it is out of our <br /> league. He did some homework on Brookline- talked with 2 other architects <br /> who are watching this project and they are astounded it is being built for <br /> $120. It is an innovation in material use. Graham Gund is a first rate <br /> architect and we should not count him out. <br /> Michael said he is a first rate architect but would we sacrifice things we <br /> need inside the building? They don ' t have high school experience. They <br /> specifically said they could not meet our time schedule. <br /> Peter said Brookline wanted a "statement" and they paid a premium to get <br /> it. Brookline's income levels are very different from Mashpee's. First <br /> and foremost we are designing something for use by our children, an <br /> educational facility for the kids today and for the next 50 years. A <br /> pretty design will cost money. If the architect is predisposed to put <br /> pretty things in , we will constantly be trying to scale him back. Graham <br /> Gund only did 1 public school in the State. They do not understand <br /> programming. <br /> Strekalovsky and Hoit <br /> Bill Jones said they did a responsible job on the Middle school addition. <br /> The firm, in its present configuration , has not done a major high school . <br /> The firm is small . Their expertise is $150 ,000-$ 3 million jobs and they <br /> do them well . He is concerned they could not meet this schedule and provide <br /> choices on a wide variety of options. We need a more powerful firm. <br /> Merry Sue agreed their work is in renovations. You don' t see any "design" <br /> evidence when they design an addition - it looks like the original <br /> building. <br /> Janice was not present for the interview. <br /> Paul is concerned this would be overwhelming for them. This job is a lot <br /> more difficult than an addition or renovation. <br /> Bill Martiros said they are good for small projects. There are too many <br /> other architects we could feel comfortable with. <br /> Joe agreed they are too small . This school would overwhelm them. <br /> Steve said they have no new, original designs. They have a rapport with <br /> the State which is advantageous. He is concerned about their ability to <br /> handle our project. <br /> Michael said they lack experience, and lack high tech support. <br /> Peter said he is grateful to Roger Hoit, he made Peter and Bill Jones look <br /> like geniuses. He saved the town money and they are grateful . His niche is <br /> renovations and additions and they do a great job. Since the firm started, <br /> they have never designed an elementary or high school from scratch. <br /> The Design Partnership of Cambridge <br /> Bill Jones said this firm is an exciting one. It was the most interesting <br /> interview. They had interesting ideas about use of space and <br /> configuration - flexible multiple use from a classroom. Very stimulating <br /> ideas .
