HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES <br /> NOVEMBER 15 , 1994 <br /> TOWN HALL <br /> Members Present: Merry Sue Ahlgren, Janice Mills, Paul Griffin , Joe <br /> Polito, Bill Martiros, Steve Greelish , Joan Avant Tavares <br /> Also Present: Ed Frenette, Bob Fournier, Mark Chen, Tom Wren, Ian <br /> Aitchison, Dan Solien, Elias McQuaid, Greg Taylor, Bill Hauck, Dr. Lincoln <br /> DeMoura, Gus Fredricks, Mike Pietrowski , Michael Pare <br /> Absent: Peter Dinizio <br /> SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT AND DATA COLLECTION STATUS <br /> Elias McQuaid gave an update on the data Weston and Sampson has collected <br /> for flow rates of other schools - Sandwich High School , South Plymouth and <br /> Norwell . <br /> Elias also presented a letter and budget information on the Cromaglass <br /> system from Analytical Systems Inc. The estimate is based on a 16 ,000 <br /> gallon per day system because it is built in modules of 8,000 gallons each. <br /> Elias reviewed the estimate with the Committee. He said this company would <br /> absorb some operating and sample testing costs because they need data from <br /> Massachusetts . <br /> There are 2 existing similar plants in the State on an experimental basis <br /> (one in Topsfield) . <br /> The expected effluent nitrogen loading will be between 2 . 5 and 1 . 5 parts <br /> per million, which is wonderful . It can be monitored off site, from the <br /> high school building . <br /> He presented a short video tape on the system where it is in use in a <br /> school in PA. It is a 40, 000 gallon per day and is allowed to be <br /> discharged directly into a river. <br /> Steve said some of the other advantages of this system are there is minimal <br /> or no chemical additions necessary. Maintenance consists of the <br /> inspections and maintenance of the pumps. It beats a conventional plant <br /> for operating costs. It is a very good system. It is approved in a few <br /> other States. <br /> They expect an answer for general use (commercial ) approval from DEP in <br /> March 1995 . <br /> It does not require that someone (maintenance person) be on site every day, <br /> it could be a periodic, "on-call " basis. <br /> Ian asked how long it will take to install , after approval ? <br /> It is much quicker than a conventional system. <br /> Paul asked Steve if he has talked with the State about the flow rates? <br /> He said they just got the final figures. He will draft a report to the <br /> State. The figures definitely state our case. <br /> Paul explained he met with Tom Cahir and spoke before the Appropriations <br /> Committee to request 75% reimbursement for the project from the State. <br /> They asked him if there were a lot of single parents moving in to the area? <br /> He did not have a statistic for that. They also asked if Mashpee attempted <br /> to regionalized. Paul explained Mashpee explored it but no other Towns <br /> 1 <br />
