MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22 , 1994 TOWN HALL Members Present: Paul Griffin , Merry Sue Ahlgren, Joe Polito, Joan Avant Tavares, Bawl Martiros, Steve Greelish , Janice Mills Also Present: Tom Wren, Dr. DeMoura, Greg Taylor, Bill Hauck , Michael Pare, Mike Pietrowski COMMITTEE DISCUSSION Paul met with the Board of Selectmen on Monday night. They unanimously approved Manny Tavares services. They also asked that the Committee make a presentation to them before any design is finalized . He agreed . They were disappointed the building would not be brick. Paul explained to them the building will still look dignified and the block may even enhance the look. They seem to accept that. Paul had another meeting at the State House yesterday about the EIR with Secretary of Environmental Affairs . The problem they have with withdrawing the EIR is that it will create so much controversy. SMMA is going to gather as much of the information they have already completed and will meet with MEPA so they can review it and be sure they are satisfied with that. Their biggest concern is Waquoit Bay pollution . Paul also asked Bob Fournier to have the traffic engineers pick up the pace on that study . George Cromby from DEP seemed very eager to help and work with the Town. Elias McQuaid has sent an official letter to the State asking for permission to downsize the plant to 15 ,000 gallons per day . Installation of this new system (Cromaglass) should help because it should get the nitrogen below the 5 parts per million . Merry Sue asked when will the Cape Cod Commission review it? Paul said it will be a joint review. Tom Cahir will make some calls to ensure that happens . Merry Sue said the Committee needs to continue to follow up on that issue to be sure it is a joint review. Joe said the Refuge proposal has talked about making the distance between the developed area of the school and the river be owned by the town but part of the refuge. Steve said ownership and control of the property is an issue for the Selectmen . Paul asked Dr. DeMoura about his "feeling" of the meeting on the EIR. Dr. DeMoura said he felt it is not as difficult a process as it is made out to be. If the architects includes a little more data, which is mostly already available, it will sail . Paul gave Committee members an article from Byte magazine. With technology in schools, the biggest problem is teachers don 't know how to use it- training is key. TECHNOLOGY DISCUSSION 1
