t
document prepared that represents the best understanding of the educational
program and make recommendations for the architects for the physical
infrastructure.
Mr. Childs said he would like to meet with the technology subcommittee.
DISCUSSION WITH ARCHITECTS- BUILDING DESIGN
Ray reviewed the building design and changes made to the roofs since the
last meeting. He would also like to talk about exterior materials at this
meeting. Next week they will talk about the interior finishes and
individual spaces.
He explained the working drawings are flat so that view will never be seen,
because of the depth of the building.
The Committee reviewed the aerial perspective of the roofs. Ray is
confident the roofs can be solved technically; the design is the driving
factor.
There are now sloped roofs virtually everywhere. The academic wing , slopes
toward the courtyard. The core are has a gabled roof. The admin/media
area has a high point with positive sloped to drainage. They got rid of the
flat area over the cafeteria and it is all positively sloped . The theater
is sloped, higher over the stage. The gym has a high point in the middle
and slopes both ways (front and back) .
Janice asked if the slopes are more than 1/8 inch?
Ray said yes, most will have more than 1/4 inch.
If the Committee agrees, they will move forward with this roof concept and
will then decide on materials. They may use a consultant for material
choices.
Joe asked if there are parapets around the gym?
Ray said there are, but it may become a gutter system.
Joe suggested removing the parapets all around the building.
Ray reviewed the view from the entry, what you will see driving in.
Nancy Caffyn asked if there will be a cover for students waiting for the
bus?
Ray said there could be a canopy, but it is a cost issue.
Merry Sue explained the students don 't wait for buses, the bus is there
when the students are dismissed. There is a canopy in front for students
waiting to be picked-up.
Janice likes the closeness of the driveway to the front door.
The second entry for the lower grades has a waiting area under the
triangle, that entrance can be opened for community use at night.
Ray explained they are studying the canopy area. All the main doors are
weather protected. They tired to minimize doors and entries into the
building for security reasons?
Nancy asked where the pool is?
Ray explained it is shown as a dotted line at the end of the gym. It is
designed so no infrastructure will be required if the pool is added.
Peter explained the pool is not in the budget. The Committee will wait
until after the bids are in and then bring it to the Town to decide if they
want a pool .
Greg said with this roof design, there are few places for roof top HVAC,
3
