Bill has a problem with the administration area, it sticks out doesn't go.
Merry Sue likes it, she likes the administration area, likes the roofs and
likes the canopy. She wants to keep the canopy the way it is to keep
light coming into the cafeteria.
Michael Pare said, given their explanations behind the designs, he is quite
satisfied.
Steve likes the roof better but would like to see more exaggerated pitches.
Increase the slope over they gym if they can. The layout is fine. He has
a problem with all the brick . He has heard brick fits the motif of the
area but with the exception of commercial buildings and town hall , nothing
else is brick. Mashpee and Cape Cod is wood. You can get a good wood
material that does a good job. The mass of the structure needs wood to
tone it down.
Peter likes the design. He likes the canopy over the cafeteria. He wouldn 't
put a weather canopy over the entire length . He wants to preserve the open
effect - is a great concept. Get rid of the parapets. Overall he is happy.
Joe also asked them to remove the parapets. It is important to raise the
pitches as much as they can. Originally he thought the canopy was ugly but
that is smoothing out a little. The rest of the roofs are working well .
Brick and wood still may be an option, if we can. The amount of glass
needs to be looked at because it is a maintenance problem down the road -
initial costs are extensive and operations may be worse.
Greg Taylor likes it. He would like to see more gable to the gym roof. He
suggests doing something to the classroom windows to change the repetition.
He likes brick. Everything that is wood is a maintenance problem.
Tom Fudala said the layout is fine. He is not convinced the canopy will
act as a weather canopy. South west are the predominate winds. He does not
like the posts (with the canopy) . He feels the point is unnecessary , it is
a roof over nothing with a post. This won 't look futuristic in the future.
He thinks the point is atrocious.
Janice likes the point. It adds another shape to a building that is big
and square. The administration/library area is unique. That part of the
building gives it two distinct entrances and that is what they aimed for.
She would like to get a better view of the pitch of the roof over the gym,
maybe with the model .
Bill Hauck said technically the roofs are being addressed. It is important
to have installation supervision required in the specs. Scare them up
front. The technology is there, the problem is workmanship.
(Steve Greelish left the meeting at this time)
Dr. DeMoura thinks it looks fine. He is much happier with the pitch in the
roofs than he was last week. He is not sure about the canopy . He is happy
with the progress. He has no problems with the brick.
George Costa likes the point. He is concerned about the distance of
parking lots to entrance, when being used by the community.
Ray said it is hard to balance that with greenspace. The closer you get,
5
