begins .
Mr. Brooks said he still has some concerns about this whole process . The
other 2 bidders were allowed to review the RFP before bidding on it .
Brooks Fleming is bidding the job because they would like to do the job but
also because of friendships with persons on the Committee. He would like
to know if, honestly, the Committee is interested in working with them?
Paul said they would not have extended an invitation to them if they were
not interested in them doing the job.
Mr. Brooks said he has been friends with Mike Pietrowski for years but they
have never done any business together. He is an asset to the Committee, he
has experience and he is a resource they should use. Mr. Brooks would not
be here without Michael .
Paul said they will take that under consideration.
Joe asked him to elaborate on the application of software for curriculum -
math, history, english, etc .
Mr. Brooks said they should take advantage of multimedia encyclopedias ,
math cad. You want teachers to evaluate the software and get a head start.
Paul said they are proposing a joint venture with a firm in New Jersey, he
asked who in Mr. Brooks ' firm know the educational market , what is
available?
Mr. Brooks said they have 2 qualified people in their LA office .
Peter said their proposal talks about communication and video production
but there is not a lot about data processing and educational use?
Mr. Brooks said that is because of .the definition in the RFP. All they can
do is specify the system and units for what you will be using . What you
will be running has not yet been identified. With video , he know what you
will be using, it has been identified.
Peter asked how many high schools he has worked on?
Mr. Brooks sid 30-40 , starting with Dennis Yarmouth in 1972 .
Peter said his sense was that most of Mr. Brooks ' experience is in the
corporate world?
Mr. Brooks said that is true , because that is where the technology is ,
especially in CA. Corporate world spends a lot on teaching .
Peter said because this is all cutting edge stuff, the Committee is looking
for someone who is technically competent but can explained to the Committee
their options , so they can understand it and choose a direction.
Mr. Brooks said they are very used to preparing different levels of
presentation - some for upper management and some for operation people.
They realize the audience they are addressing .
Paul explained that the use of the school is being phased in and the
Committee wants to be sure the consultant takes this under consideration.
Paul asked what they will do , for training , to be sure the staff is up to
speed?
Mr. Brooks said they never choose something that is not tested and tried.
Every piece of technology becomes obsolete but you can still get life out
of it. Re-cycle computers to lower grades and use the new ones for the
upper grades . Some manufacturers have a good track record for supporting
8
