5%. It is as realistic as he can make it.
Bill asked about the quality of furniture?
Mr . Tavares will make recommendations on what he thinks is appropriate .
Paul said the Committee should listen to what Mr . Tavares has to say very
carefully. He asked Phil to look over Mr. Tavares ' budget to be sure
nothing is missing and to coordinate the two budgets (Tavares and Childs)
so pieces don ' t fall through the cracks .
SCHEDULE
Advance site clearing package:
- pre-bid conference March 15th .
- receipt of bids March 22nd .
Tom Wren explained time has been shortened to 30 days so there is no float
between this and the general contractor arriving on site . It will be very
tight.
General Contract:
- drawings available March 8th .
- pre-bid conference March 23rd .
- subbids due April 6th .
- General contractor bids due April 13th .
- Award date April 28th .
Chartwell said the peer review comments might require some addenda.
Paul asked why April 28th to award , that is 15 days? They had it down to 7
days before.
Paul said they had talked about putting language in the contract saying
time is of the essence and put the start date in .
Phil does not know if it is included at this time .
Paul said this schedule is 30 days later than the previously , very tight
schedule. They have to be aggressive about getting started fast.
Paul suggested the Committee meet on Tuesday April 18th and then the
Selectmen could meet at 6 : 30 that night to award the contract. Ask the
contractor to sign it on April 24th . Town Counsel has to examine the bond.
Paul discussed the potential increase in State aid . What is considered the
start date of the project? Signing of the contract, shovel in the ground,
site clearing? He asked Phil to research this so it is clear what GESS
means . Paul spoke with Tom Cahir' s office. They told him the Legislature
is seriously considering the. increase, but he had no timetable. It has to
be done before June 1 . They are getting a tremendous amount of pressure.
It may be enough money ( the increase) to re-consider the start dates .
III Phil said the bids are good for 30 day, you have to react within 30 days.
Steve thinks the point is moot because the project does not have $161 . 00
per sq foot in it.
Clearing and Grubbing - the Selectmen must award this at their meeting of
Monday , March 27th . This Committee must meet before that.
OTHER MATTERS
- Michael Kirwan of CCR spoke with NYNEX , they are likely not to bring
fiber optic cable into the school .
8
