■
■
■
■ TRANSPORTATION OF MEDICATION
■ STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE IN THEIR POSSESSION ANY
■ MEDICATIONS, PRESCRIPTION AS WELL AS OVER-THE-COUNTER, WHILE ON
SCHOOL GROUNDS OR ON THE SCHOOL BUS/VAN.
■ A parent/guardian or parent/guardian-designated responsible adult shall deliver all prescription
■ medications to be administered by school personnel or to be taken by self-medicating students, if
required by the self-administration agreement(105CMR210.006 (B)), to the School Nurse or
■ other responsible person designated by the School Nurse.
■ • The prescription medication must be in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled
■ container.
• The School Nurse receiving the prescription medication shall document the quantity
■ of the medication delivered.
■ • In extreme circumstances, as determined by the School Nurse, the medication may
be delivered by other persons provided they have been designated by the
■ parent/guardian to do so.
■
■ PARENTAL DISPENSING OF MEDICATION
The administration of medications may not be delegated with the exception of epinephrine or other
■ medication to be administered in a life-threatening situation where the child has a known allergy or
pre-existing medical condition. There must be an order for administration of the medication from a
■ licensed prescriber and written parental consent. If necessary at other times, parents will be
contacted to dispense medication to their child.
■
■ SELF-MEDICATING OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS
■ Students at this age level need close supervision with all medications, including over-the-counter
medications. No self-medicating will be allowed at the Kenneth C. Coombs Elementary School.
■ This includes cough drops, vitamins, lip balms, creams, patches and other over-the-counter medical
products.
■
■ PARENT/GUARDIAN HEALTH NOTIFICATIONS/ALERTS
■ • Parents/guardians will be notified, as needed, throughout the school year of occurrences
of communicable diseases such as lice, Fifth's Disease, etc.
■ • Due to increased nut and seed allergies among young children, teachers when applicable
will refrain from these as snacks in the classroom. Parent/guardian cooperation is
■ essential in this regard so as not to endanger others' health. You will be notified in
■ writing if your child's classroom is an allergy free classroom.
■
■
53
■
■
