• Due to space constraints and other school issues, parents/guardians/visitors may not drop in for
lunch with students. There will be opportunities during the year for breakfast or lunch due to
school-wide functions or individual teacher/classroom created events.
• Due to safety issues, parents/guardians/visitors may not drop by for recess with students. There
are specifically assigned school monitors whose responsibility it is to supervise the children each
day.
• Animals are not permitted excepting for very specific purposes such as for science class.
Classroom pets are not permitted. Also, please keep pets at home when transporting your child
to and from school. Pets should not be in school or on school grounds due to safety reasons.
STUDENTS ATTENDING MASHPEE SCHOOLS MUST
BE MASHPEE RESIDENTS
Upon registration, and/or at any other time the school should have a concern, parents/guardians must
provide required proofs of residency.
With the exception of school choice students as voted by the school committee, a pupil must attend
school in the town of which parent, legal guardian or other person or persons serving as his/her
parent or parents are actually bona fide residents. A bona fide residence is one where the family
group of which the student is part actually lives. This means that the family cooks, eats, and sleeps
in a specific house regularly during the week. A person serving as a parent is an adult person with
whom he/she lives. Official documentation for legal guardianship is required when a student does
not reside with a parent.
CHANGE OF TELEPHONE OR RESIDENCE
Parents/guardians are required to complete a personal data/emergency information form at the
beginning of the school year or upon registration during the year. Please provide all the necessary
information on the form. We must have your home phone number. Cell phone numbers
should be provided. Also, please note that two local emergency contacts are required by the
school so they may be reached within a reasonable amount of time. (No off-Cape numbers,
please.) In case of an emergency, we will phone home first, then work, the cell number and then the
emergency contacts. If, during the school year, a student's address or telephone number is changed,
parents/guardians are required to notify the school in writing so that the student's records may be
kept up-to-date and to ensure that the school's emergency information is accurate.
DRESS AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE
The Mashpee Public Schools requires students to maintain an appearance that is conducive to good
health and appropriate conduct. We adhere to all normal safety concerns and strive to maintain an
atmosphere and climate of warmth and acceptance for all. The following guidelines are regarding
appropriate attire. The Principal shall be the final judge of adherence.
• Local and state laws prohibit bare feet. Appropriate footwear should be worn at all times.
Flip-flops should not be worn. Tennis shoes (sneakers) are recommended as they provide
appropriate support for children on the playground.
• Hats and jackets (any kind) are not to be worn in the building by either boys or girls.
• Wearing apparel must meet the safety requirements of the class.
• Clothing with alcohol, drugs or other inappropriate language or symbols is not allowed.
• Clothing that detracts from the learning environment is not allowed. These include see-through
garments, tank tops, exposed midriffs, short shorts, extremely short skirts, muscle shirts; blouses,
shirts or pants that expose underwear, halter tops, tube tops.
15
