1989 Mashpee Shellfish Reg6lations-Article 5 , Sertion 3 -Srallnn Qa^,1113! ions <br /> All 1989 Mashpee Shellfish Regulations are in effect unless superseded by one`of <br /> the following: <br /> General Regulations for Scalloping <br /> 1) Season-All waters of the town of Mashpee will be open for the taking of scallops <br /> from sunrise on Sunday,October 1,1989 to sunset on March 30,1990. <br /> 2) All waters of the town of Mashpee are open to the taking of scallops for both <br /> family and commercial shellfish permit holders,including private shellfish <br /> grant areas (subject to method restrictions outlined in regulation 7. <br /> 3) All waters of the town of Mashpee are open to the taking of scallops by family <br /> shellfish permit holders seven days a week. <br /> All waters are open to the taking of scallops by commercial permit holders six <br /> days a week.Commercial shellfish permit holders are not allowed to harvest <br /> or possess shellfish on Sundays unless they also possess a family permit, <br /> and are subject to all family permit regulations. <br /> 4) All scallops are to be landed in the shell.Shucking scallops or possession of shucked <br /> scallop meats before coming ashore is prohibited. <br /> 5) Seed-Taking or possession of seed scallops is prohibited.A seed scallop is defined <br /> as one that lacks a well defined annual growth ring,regardless <br /> of the size or weight of the individual shellfish. <br /> 6) Catch limits-Family shellfish permit holders are allowed to harvest up to one <br /> bushel of scallops per week. <br /> Commercial shellfish permit holders are allowed to take up to ten bushels <br /> of scallops per day. <br /> A bushel of scallops shall be defined as equal to four pecks ,or forty quarts <br /> dry measure. (A normal plastic five gallon pail equals twenty quarts or <br /> one half bushel.) <br /> 7) Methods of Harvest-From October 1 through March 30,scallops may be taken by hand, <br /> rake or dipnet except on private shellfish grant areas where it;.is limited to <br /> hand or dipnet.so as not to disturb prom ated shellfish or aquaculture gear. <br /> Dragging for scallops is allowed under the following restrictions: <br /> a)Dragging the main channels of Popponesset Bay,Little River and Great <br /> River is limited to November 30 to March 30,1990. <br /> b)Dragging the main channels-odfFaquoit Bay is limited to November 1 to <br /> November 30.An extension3�of tt season may be announced if stocks <br /> warrant it. <br /> c)Dredges or drags aze limited to a n ximum width of 36 inches. � <br /> d)No more than two,,drags are to be used" at any one time per boat. <br /> e)No more than two: permit holders per boat. <br /> f)All cull material shall be returned to the channels from which it was <br /> removed.No cull 'material,ghall-to- deposited on the shallows or flats,or <br /> deposited on shore except `for shellfish predators as defined in Article 3 <br /> Section 16 of the"General Shellfi.%i Regulations. <br /> g)No shellfishing activity for .,c�`l ops is allowed when the air temperature I' <br /> falls below 28 degrees FahreOe. tt'l.This is to prevent mortality to seed <br /> scallops from freezing. j <br /> +I <br /> fi <br />
