i I Motion to be made by George Costa. Motion: I move the Town vote to appropriate and transfer$3,000 from revenue available for appropriation to the Herring Warden Ladder Account. Motion passes unanimously at 8:54 p.m. Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to establish under the provisions of Chapter 40C of the Massachusetts General Laws, as amended by Chapter 359 of the Acts of 1971, a Historic District Study Committee for the traditional Mashpee Village Center. The study Committee shall consist of 7 members, which shall make an investigation and report on the significance of the Buildings, structures, features, sites or surroundings included in such proposed historic district, and shall submit a final report with its recommendations after a public hearing, together with a map of the proposed district and a draft of a proposed bylaw to Town Meeting, or take any other action relating thereto. Submitted by the Board of Selectmen i Explanation: This article is to start the process to consider the creation of a historic district for the traditional Mashpee village center, which is in the vicinity of Main Street (Route 130) and Great Neck Road North. This area, as identified in the Heritage Preservation and Community Character element of the Mashpee Comprehensive Plan has historic significance for the Town. The character of this part of Town is threatened by inappropriate and incompatible development if developed under current zoning. Therefore, to ensure the proper development and i redevelopment of this area in a manner which protects the local Wampanoag heritage, a historic District was recommended in the draft Comprehensive Plan.
