SECTION 6. Said special police officers shall be sworn to the faithful performance of their duties before the Town Clerk of the Town who shall keep a record of all such appointments. SECTION 7. Special police officers appointed under the provisions of this act shall be subject to ' the provisions of Section 100 and Section 111F of Chapter 41. The amount payable pursuant to the provisions of Section 111F of Chapter 41 shall be calculated by averaging the amount earned over the prior fifty-two (52) weeks as a special police officer working police details (or averaged over such lesser period of time for any officer designated as special police officers less than fifty-two (52) weeks prior to the incapacity). In no event shall payment pursuant to Section 111F of Chapter 41 exceed, in any calendar year, the limitation on earnings contained in Section 91(b) of Chapter 32. Payment pursuant to Section 111F of chapter 41 shall terminate when a special police officer reaches the age of sixty-five (65). In the event the age limitation applicable to regular police officers serving a town is increased from the current sixty- five (65) years of age, the termination of benefits pursuant to Section 111F of Chapter 41, as provided herein to special police officers, shall terminate at such a higher age limit. Special police officers appointed under the provisions of this act shall not be subject to the provisions of Section 85H of Chapter 32, or eligible for any benefits pursuant thereto. SECTION 8. Appointment as a special police officer does not entitle any individual appointed as such to assignment to any detail(s). SECTION 9. Retired police officers, serving as special police officers pursuant to this Act shall be subject to the limitations on hours worked and on payments to retired town employees pursuant to the provisions of Section 91(b) of Chapter 32. SECTION 10. This act shall take effect upon its passage. Submitted by the Police Chief Explanation: Passage of this article will allow the Selectmen to petition the General Court to enact special legislation to create a Retired Reserve Police Unit within the Mashpee Police Department consisting of Police Officers who have served in the capacity as a permanent full d time police officer in the Town of Mashpee or another municipality of the Commonwealth and who have retired honorably based on superannuation. The Retired Reserve Police Unit would be a resource of trained and experienced individuals who may be used to augment the active w, force in emergencies, to perform private details, and to accomplish other law enforcement and i criminal investigation operations missions as needed. Compensation of personnel assigned to the Retired Reserve Police Unit would be derived from contractors/vendors of private details and from Town, federal, state and, municipal emergency management funding during any declared states of emergency. � r Article 23 To see if the Town will amend Section 174-55.0 as follows: In an industrial district, one (1) freestanding sign is permitted on each lot, provided that it does not stand forty (40) square feet in signboard area, does not exceed five (5) feet in height and is located closer than fifty (50) feet to a lot line. In commercial districts, one (1) freestanding 22
