15 Fairview Avenue
Melrose,MA 02176
January 15, 1997
Board of Appeals
Town of Mashpee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee,MA 02649
Edward M. Govom
Chairman
Please voice my opposition for the Special Permit for the proposed changes to the Little River Boat Yard.
I am concerned for the safety of my fancily and our property with the additional boat racks constructed,
once again without a building permit,so close to our home. I object to the other changes because they
intensify the use of what was oucc a boat yard. Now it is a marina, dock construction business, real estate
office and art gallery! Next a metal shop. When will it stop?
We thought we had all this behind us with the decision of the Cape Cod Commission. Currently, they are
in violation of that Special Permit by operating the fork lift outside the hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. I had
reported this to the police and Mrs.Perry has reported it to the Building Inspector on several occasions to
no avail.
They did not follow through on any of their proposed changes for the last permit. They promised
everything to the Board of Appeals and did nothing. We had to seek assistance from outside agencies for
compliance.
Furthermore, zoning regulations do not allow the issuance of a special permit if there is any question of
back taxes. I met with the Town Planner this past summer and he could show me no record of the Town
of Mashpee taking a parcel of land on Little River. I have a copy of the deed which shows clear
ownership of that land belonging to William Burtis. They have been using that land and have not paid
one dime of taxes in the last 15 years.
Tell me Mr. Govoni, where do we seek relief. I thought at one time it was the Board of Appeals but the
Town of Mashpee has bent over backwards to accommodate the Burtis family and the wrongdoings at the
Little River Boat Yard. The same town would not enforce the decision of the Barnstable Court. Not only
do you encourage this unlawful behavior, you reward it. As a result, our life on Seconsett Island for the
last few years has been hell. They have threatened to burn our house down, broke a section of stockade
fence,Jennifer Burtis has come at--e i:.her car while I:vas out walking, not once but three time and has
a ritual of throwing her beer bottles in our driveway while she drives by at two or three o'clock in the
morning beeping her horn. Please give US a break just once! Do not hesitate to call me on 617 662-6071
if you wish to discuss this matter.
Please enter these objections in the minutes of the meeting and send me a copy at the above address.
