'
Pr 12-%
14 April 1984
The Board of Selectmen 'APR
Town Ha 11 1 8o"
fflashpee, Massachusetts 02549
Attentions Joseph Murphy, Executive Secretary
Gentlemen%
f
Kindly accept my resignation, with much regret. From the Conservation
Commission, effective 1 May 1984*
For some time I have had serious reservations about tha "ommisssori•s
ability to enforce its regulations. Frankly, there is little ability,
and this- weakness is flagrantly exploited. Among those exhibiting
this disregard of the Commission® s authority is New Seabury Corporation,
who, an this past Thursday bulldozes n—nd paved a road through the .
Plaushop Villaga sea bluff for their own use. This work was done b
Bonito Contractors and was cas f'ul.ly obss rved. NO request: to do this
work was addressed to tie Commission __ it ce3 fainly would have been
summarily denied. However, without. the poser to enforce regulations
and to make inspections, theConservation Comnissi.on is largely a token
figurehead and those wishing e.o take advantage of such adopt the r
atti.:udo that once something is dons, ghat can be dame about it.7 ..
However, if Fines were imposed an a daily basis and if demands were
made to restore areas to *.heir original conditions, without delay,
the Commission would be respected and regulations would be upheld.
Unfortunately, we conduct hearings for the individuals who respect
the re guLn ti ons, worry about water run-off from a a,proposed deck,
write os iers of conditions, often super°ceded by €LQC, and, in essence,
"fiddle while Rome burns. " I
As a busy professional and commuter, the time I can volunteer to our
town is limited. Volunteering time is often a hardship. and naturally,
I want to feel it is put to good use. perhaps with this resignation
Y can better use any time on another town board.
Yours sincerely,
Ma h Dardan RECEIVED
P- 0.
