The remaining members write to the selectmen., <br /> within one month of the vacancy, informing them of the <br /> vacancy. Then, the selectmen, with the rest of the board, <br /> after one week's public notice, fill the vacancy by roll <br /> call vote. If the remaining members do not inform the <br /> selectmen within one month, the selectmen fill the vacancy <br /> by themselves. In either case, a majority vote is required <br /> to select a replacement. Whoever is selected must be a <br /> registered voter in the town and perform the duties of the <br /> office until the next town election or until another person <br /> is qualified. <br /> G. Mayor <br /> C3986 Failure to elect If no mayor has been elected, the pre- <br /> sident of the board of aldermen shall perform the mayor's <br /> duties until a mayor is chosen. The aldermen shall then <br /> issue warrants for a special election of the mayor.
