The remaining members write to the selectmen., <br /> within one month of the vacancy, informing them of the <br /> vacancy. Then, the selectmen, with the rest of the board, <br /> after one week's public notice, fill the vacancy by roll <br /> call vote. If the remaining members do not inform the <br /> selectmen within one month, the selectmen fill the vacancy <br /> by themselves. In either case, a majority vote is required <br /> to select a replacement. Whoever is selected must be a <br /> registered voter in the town and perform the duties of the <br /> office until the next town election or until another person <br /> is qualified. <br /> G. Other Town Offices <br /> C41811 Offices other than selectmen, town clerk, treasurer, col- <br /> lector of taxes or auditor: the selectmen must, in writing, <br /> appoint someone to fill the vacancy. i <br /> 1^ <br /> III. Vacancies Occurring In City Offices During Term <br /> C41914 A. City Clerk } <br /> If there is a vacancy, or if the clerk is unable to perform <br /> his duties, the mayor shall appoint a temporary clerk to <br /> preform such duties. A person appointed to fill a vacancy <br /> shall hold the office until the end of the unexpired term of <br /> his predecessor. <br /> B. Mayor <br /> C3986 Failure to elect If no mayor has been elected, the pre- <br /> sident of the board of aldermen shall perform the mayor's <br /> duties until a mayor is chosen. The aldermen shall then <br /> issue warrants for a special election of the mayor. This <br /> provision must be accepted by the city council, otherwise <br /> follow city charter provisions. <br /> 16 <br />
