secretary until the executive secretary shall return and assume his duties. (b) Vacancy Any vacancy in the office of executive secretary shall be filled as soon as possible by the Board of Selectmen but endin P 9 such a ppointment the Board of Selectmen shall designate a qualified town ti officer or employee to P perform the duties of the executive secretary on an acting basis. The appointment of an acting � executive secretary shall be for a term not I to exceed three months, provided, however , one renewal , not to "exceed a second three months may be voted by the Board of t # Selectmen . The acting executive secretary shall be compensated at the same level of j pay as the executive secretary but in no i event to exceed the salary of the executive I secretary. (c) Powers and Duties I The powers of a temporary or acting executive secretary, under (a) of (b) above , shall be limlited to matters not j admitting of delay. Section 2. 15.4 Removal and Suspension I a The executive secretary may be removed by a majority vote of the Board of Selectmen , s for a cause , after notice of the contemplated action has been given at least seven (7) days prior to the vote . Before the executive secretary may be removed from office , if he so demand., he shall be given a written statement of the reasons alleged for his removal , and shall have a right to be heard thereon at a meeting of the' Board of Selectmen prior to a final vote on the question of his removal , but pending and during such hearing the Board of Selectmen may suspend him from office . The action of the Board of Selectsmen in suspending or removing the executive secretary shall be final , it being the intention of this provision to vest all authority and to fix all responsibility for such suspension or removal solely in the Board of Selectmen . The executive secretary shall continue to receive his salary until the effective date -29-
