The Se 1 ec tmen shaI 1 h.a'.1e a <br /> _ <br /> general oversight of all town affairs , <br /> i.ohether conducted by special hoard= or not ; <br /> and shall have the right to make any <br /> recommendations for the better conduct of <br /> the department , board or committee . If <br /> such recommendations •:-;.re not heeded, the'r' <br /> shall record the same in the Annual Town <br /> Report so that the Town may take action <br /> thereon , at seems advisable . <br /> Section 2. 1 .2 Legal Proceedings . The Selectmen shall <br /> have full authority as agent of the Totiin to <br /> empl oy counsel to i nst. i tute and prosecute <br /> suits in the name of the Tov)n , except suits <br /> on bonds, notes, or other securities given <br /> to the Tot-kin Treasurer , and to appear and <br /> defend suits brought against it , and to <br /> appear in proceeding_ before any tribunal , <br /> unless it is otherwise specially ordered by <br /> vote of the Tot-kin. <br /> Section•n 2. 1 .. statistics in annual Tovin Report . The <br /> Selectmen shall include in their annual <br /> report to the Tovin : <br /> a . H general statement of the Tovin ''s <br /> aff.a,i rs during the past .Year and <br /> recommendations of the Selectmen <br /> for future requirements. <br /> b. A report of all claims which are <br /> outstanding and all suits to trlh i ch <br /> the Town is part together with a <br /> full explanation of the circumstances <br /> and the standing of each case at the <br /> time of. the report . <br /> i <br /> C . A report of all streets laid out or <br /> constructed during the year , the <br /> length and width , cost of construction <br /> and amounts land damage i n each <br /> instance . <br /> d . A listof betterments assessed during <br /> the year . <br /> Section 2. 1 . 4 Fuel Purchases.
