GALVIN V P.o.Ho% 1817
P[/BemsM COLO U,S.C.28202
May 20, 1977
Town Clerk of Mashpee
Mashpee
Massachusetts 02649
Attention: Mr. Michael Mankanus or Whomever is in Charge
Gentlemen:
Something is rotten in Mashpee:
While my house was under construction I received two letters
from Mr. Dilis and to both letters I responded promptly and rejected
the idea of granting him variance to build his garage 4' from our.
lot line. Although I did not received from your office the notice of
public hearing, I found out about it through the J. L. Callahan office.
I immediately phoned your office from Michigan to object and promptly
wrote you concerning my objection, reference my letter dated September
27, 1976. When I arrived at my newly constructed home in early June of
1976, I called your office to inquire about the situation. I was told
that Dilis' request for variance was rejected. He next erected his
six foot fence to totally block our view of the Pond and Sound from
our first floor. I heard some rumors late in the summer concerning
his garage and in late August of 1976 I phoned your office again and
was told that no permit was issued and I requested and was promised
that if reapplication were made, I would certainly be notified. When
I phoned your office in August of 1976, the person to whom I spoke
was extremely familiar with the situation and assured me no permit
had been granted and if reapplication were made, I would be notified.
And then I learned that the garage is built. I immediately
wrote you on April 25, 1977 and all I received back was a document
dated June 21, 1976 and with this I am supposed to be satisfied.
Why was I told in June and August 1976 that no permit was
issued and that nothing was pending if you really had already issued
this on June 21? Something "sneaky" seems to have occurred.
continued . . .
