10
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
December 17, 2001
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Public Hearing— Cemetery Regulations: (continued)
Mr. Morgan, Cemetery Committee member indicated that the rules are the
first set of rules for the operation of the cemetery. The rules will apply to
both cemeteries. Mr. Morgan proposed to replace flags from cemetery
funds when they have been deemed worn or tattered.
Flags - Amendment:
Motion made by Selectman Leveille to allow Flags on a year round
basis, of appropriate size and holder to be determined by the
Cemetery Commission for anyone who chooses. The Town shall
finance the replacement of American Flags only.
Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Mr. Morgan indicated that a non-Mashpee resident would need to apply to
the Commission because they would need to be careful to allow for
adequate lots for residents. In response to the question Mr. Morgan
indicated that it is not their intention to turn non-residents away.
Equipment - Amendment:
With regards to the equipment, Mr. Morgan indicated that it is the Town's
right to restrict things that may be injurious to the Town and to ensure that
both the Town and Federal government (OSHA) burial requirements have
been met. In the event of a breakdown of equipment the Selectmen agreed
to amend the regulations, Section IV. Page 4 (J)
J. Equipment owned or leased by the Cemetery Commission and/or Town
of Mashnee shall be used exclusively in making interments, disinterment
and removals.
Motion made by Selectman Leveille to amend Section J. as referenced.
Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
