f- r
Since the Textron Funds grant for the book was not awarded, Ms. Kane inquired about any
available funding for the book. Committee members discussed the number of residents, calculating
costs based on 91,500 residents. It was believed that a special, saturation mailing, using a"head of
household" address listing, with a postage price of.1 o may be available through the town. It was
suggested that the cost of production may total $12,000/$13,000+postage o $3,000. Members
expressed their preference to print 10,000 books, allowing the availability of extra copies at Town
Hall, the library and the Senior,Center and to be provided to new residents. Further investigation
about the cost of postage and the possibility of using the Town's nailing penit v ill be needed.
Mr. Baker recommended that the group determine approximate printing prices and then send out an
RFP to printers when the document is complete. It was recommended that County grant meters be
contacted and the Chair offered to follow up with the Town Manager. The Chair recommended that
the Committee request the Town Manager to include the anticipated $15,000 cost In the FY 2011
budget. The Chair also suggested the possibility of the project being considered for Community
Preservation.Act funds, but Ms. Kane did not feel that the book would qualify.
The Committee will invite the representatives of the high school Environmental Club as well as the
new representatives to the Environmental Oversight Cottee.
i
NEW BUSINESS
No new business at this time.
OLD BUSINESS
Andrew Mcl Manus conservation De art ent
Conservationg ent.McManus reported that the Land Steward Program is going well and that
boundary markers and signage, restricting vehicle access and prohibiting dumping, are being
installed. Lipnosky Conservation Parcel located behind Notre Dame Lane has experienced
tremendous abuse over the years such as illegal dumping and -wheel drive use. Signage and gates
have been installed to block off the goad that was being used as a short cut for travelers to and from
Banish. In Bantu Woods, the Departinent of Public Works inst .11ed large boulders to prevent
large vehicle access. An area ruined by illegal ATV and 4-wheel l drive activity is being replenished
with grass and shrubbery by the DPW. Calls have been received regarding illegal dumping and the DP's i
p g
dispatched to assist with the clean up. Additionally, the Cape Cod Jeep Club has assisted with
cleaning up John's Pond and Noisy Dole. 1r. Baker expressed concem that forms are not being
submitted. Agent McManus confirmed that he occasionally receives updates Brom volunteers but
that all baseline reports have been received. The Agent suggested that lack of structure may be the
reason why forms are not being submitted and Mr. Baker added that the Agent no longer has an
assistant to help with his workload; the current hiring freeze prevents the Assistant Conservation
Agent position from being filled. Cottee members discussed the possibility of having someone
work on the project as part of the tax abatement program. Regarding thenewsletter, Mr, Baker
questioned whether or not additional copies would be distributed monthly and suggested that the
Agent consider a quarterly newsletter that includes a.request to submit completed forms.
Additionally, Mr. Baker suggested that the form be available on the Conservation web page in PDF
format.
2
