Discussion was held about the need to provide `workforce housing'.
Adopt new provision of the Community Preservation Act (CPA); make towns eligible for up to
$100 million. New legislation just signed allows the towns on Cape Cod to join CPA without
additional tax increases.
Rick Presbrey explained how himself and State Sen. Rob O'Leary are working on a Committee
designed to provide an alternative to Chapter 40B for the Cape,
b. follow-up on last Tuesday's Public Forum for Housing in Mashpee.
Deb'orah noted, "original objections at first become some workable solutions." Some
individuals, who had NIMBY concerns at first, were more open-minded. It was discussed that
such an event should be held on an annual basis. Eric mentioned that there had been meetings of
the different town's Affordable Housing Committee, organized by the Housing Specialist of the
Cape Cod Commission. However, there had not been a meeting since early 2003, when he
attended one with former member Dick Terry.
The Committee directed Mr. Smith to prepare a thank you letter to the Housing Forum
participants and mention that there is still a vacancy on the Committee.
c. Affordable Housing Survey. The Town has been awarded $3,000 from the Cape Cod
Commission. Eric reviewed a revised proposal from The Survey Center. Once either Joyce
Mason or John Cahalane signed the contract from the Commission and we are authorized to
proceed the survey could begin.
d. Other New Business: Eric will provide the Affordable Housing Committee with CPA
information as it becomes available.
e. Summer schedule — The committee will not have a formal meeting in August, unless one is
needed because of the need to review a Chapter 40B application. The previously discussed idea
of holding a "field trip" to view new and potential affordable housing projects was raised.
IV
Next Regularly Scheduled Meeting: September 7, 2004
V
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm
Respectfully submitted
Eric R. Smith, Assistant Town Planner
