TOWN OF MASHPEE OFFICOF SELECTMEN
16 Great Neck Road North
• ''
Mashpee,Massachusetts 02649
ti r
'•., ,4 4,: -+ Telephone- 5 39-1401
November 5. 2012
Kelley Foundation
Board of Directors
20 forth Main street
South Yarmouth, MA o2664
Dear Board of Directors:
As Chairman of the Mashpee Board of Selectmen, and a member of Mashpee Cares, I
am writing in support of the Falmouth Prevention Partnership's Kelley Foundation
grant proposal.
The Mashpee Cares coalition brings many community sectors together to support the
well-being of Mashpee youth. since substance abuse is at the heart of most of the issues
that youth face today, we have invested a significant amount of our coalition's time and
energy into gathering information and assessing just how prevalent the problem is in
our community. Through the recommendation of the Falmouth Prevention Partnership,
we administered the Communities that Care survey to all students in grades 6-12. This
survey has been used extensively across the country in prevention work to identify
specific areas of concern regarding substance abuse and other risky behaviors.
Based on the results of our survey, the Partnership has recommended activities and
programs for. our coalition. t we are. proud of our accomplishments to date, but
collaborating. with a successful coalition and having staff on board to further 'our . -
mission is not only very exciting, but is fully supported by Mashpee Cares. with
programs such as our new 24/7 prescription drug take-back program, Chris Herren's
Project Purple, and Parents who Host Lose the Most, we can directly impact more than
1,o o o families in our community.
We look forward to taking Mashpee Cares to the next level with the mentor hip of the
Falmouth Prevention Partnership; we are grateful to be.asked to present our program to
your foundation for consideration,
Sincerely,
Michael R. Richardson, Chairman
Mashpee Board of selectmen
