PLANNING BOARD
Town of M sh ee
SM ? -
Plannina Board Minutes - January 18, 19 8
Harold Collins: There are places in town where the whole window
a
is taken up with:=. i gns. These are tubular signs that glow during
the dark hours. If it is a legal sign, it can' t take yap over 25%
f the window.
Gentleman'.in -audiences The penalty for not removing these signs
in one year is worse than most criminals get. This fine is continued
for each day of the violation.
Michelle Stone: Some windows are completely covered and I see the
need for control.
Earle Mars tern: Theme are neon signs given by advertisers which do
not advertise the establisheent but their product. These are the
signs which are going to end up in the windows like the budweiser
signs.
Gentleman in audience The State is going to have a new one for
megabucks and it is a neon imitation. What is a neon light and
what is the intent of the law?
r
Michelle Stone: Are neon signs totally prohibited. The issue i
not addressed elsewhere in the -laws.
Earle barstern : We have eliminated the word national out of 10.3. ?,
Richard Dubin: We would have to cross out that "except"sentence in
1 . 12. This talks about where neon type signs are allowed but we
aren' t going to have any if you cross out rational. All neon lighting
in windows would be pr . i' bi ted, The intent was to get rid of aeon
signs in windows advertising national products.
Earle ar•sters: The intent was to get rid of the free signs advertising
beer, coke, or other products. What is the concensus on barring neon
.signs in windows? We would have to say neon or other similar type
signs, This would cover neon type signs. We will talk to town counsel
on this.
Gentleman in audience: In the difference between 16 ft. and 100 fte
when can the Appeals Board grant a larger sign? Where is a sign
grandfathered?
Earle Ta s to s: The sign would have to conform by a certain date.
Under 10.4 maintenance, 10.4. 1 any comments? 10.4.2 there are
couple of small changes rade in this one. When any sign becomes
insecure w and in danger of falling, or otherwise unsafe, and here we
insert, or poorly m intaned as evidenced by illegibility such as
defacement or missing sections, we added that to cover sums which are
really rough and can' t be read. Everything else is the same as you
read it.
( continued on page 8)
