ti
OUTREACH COORDINATOR'S R
September 2011
4
HOME VISITS/APPOINTMENTS
-nine were made this past month, in addition to client contact by telephone.
I met with several caregivers of elders with memory loss, and safety concerns such as driving,
wandering, and the use of the stove continue to be part of my conversation with the caregiver.
Generally most caregivers are-in denial regarding these risks, sometimes because the elder
should not be left alone, and/or the family is unwilling or unable to pay for the cost of the care.
I met with elders who continue to be desperate for affordable housing, and in two situations the
elders are living in a motel. In.another situation, the elder is living with a friend, and is
considering moving to the shelter in Hyannis.
I was contacted by a few residents of one of the affordable housing sites in Mashpee, due t
their concerns regarding another resident who has mental health issues. They had questions
about their legal rights; I referred therm to o,ne'of the attorneys and also to the board of directors
that oversees the development.
VOLUNTEERS
I continue to meet with the telefriend, SHINE, friendly visitor assistant, grief support, birthday
flower delivery, and biography volunteers, to provide supervision, and to assign clients.
I trained four new friendly visitors, and placed three of therm on assignment.
I and our two fuel assistance volunteers attended the annual fuel assistance training.
MEETINGS/CONTACTS
As part of the Town's task force on hoarding, I attended and participated in the training on
hoarding for all staff ofthe Mashpee Police and Fire Departments.
I attended the meeting p for Cape Cod human service providers convened by the Department of
Mental Health, addressing the challenges of servicing this population. I advocated for the reed
for in home competency evaluation for elders.
I participated in my fiat meeting as a board member ofthe Part iris n's Support Network r1
Cape Cod.
Finally, Jing Long and I met with David Munsell, sell, Director, Cape Cod chapter of NAMI, t
discuss hove our organizations can work together.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lynne w-aten--aan
I.FW/Icw
