I January 1996
Wage 7.
bogs themselves was issued in 1992; filings started back i 986 and 1987. Also, the series
f cranberry bogs, the-Quaker Run bogs, dad undergo and received a USDA Farm. Plan
approval. It does qualify for the exemption under the Wetlands Protection.Act.
As far as the grater supply comments and allegations that inappropriate water withdrawal is
taking place, the DEP permit attached to the letter is in fact a penrnit for golf course
nd ation; it is separate from the use that has been permitted and allowed by DIP for the
cranberry bogs. Thepm-mit that is held for the bog-is reeogmnd by DEP as existing. The
registration.approval is not in the name of Willo rbend, nor has it ever been, because the
registration for agricultural uses go to the people who operate and actually conduct the
fmfmg use. Therefore, it goes to the person who has the bog lease, Mrf Hallet.
When research was clone on this issue back in 1994, there was some confusion because
h&. Mallet and A& Germyn had registrations under one registration form that applied to
diffmmt spots in M shp a and Barnstable. 1f the Commission feels they need further
research, the pion whose name appears on the bottom from. DEP, Sarah Crockett, is in
charge of the program.
The third paragraph becomes moot, there has never been any violation notices issued to
WiUo bend for violation of their_groundwater withdrawal pmt. That information is
readily available from Sarah Crockett who will verify this information.
Aft. Sherman stated in the reconfiguration of the ponds, Vis Fantozzi wrote a summmy of
herp osition on the performance standards which was sent to Gary Mal uch, the DEP
Wetlands person in Lakeville who is assigned to cases having to do with cranberry bogs
and water resources. He spoke with him today. There is no problem with the performance
standards for Land Under Water andBank; that can be put to gest. There are some other
issues remauungâ–
Aft.. Shffff an asked NIs Fantozzi if the water budget for the exi fM ponds and as
reconfigured changed` She stated it does not. He asked from what source the water
care? She stated, other than natural run-off and rainfall the pn"mary source for eater in
those ponds is ground water, for those ponds that are not lined, and the pumping from the
irrigation well, which is fed to the reservoir pond.
Mr. Sherman asked whm the grater from these ponds goes; what is it used for`
Ns F antozzi.stated the use, as pitted, goes to the irrption of the bog and agricultural
use. When there is a transfer of water from the well to the other ponds that they are not
touching. fir. Sherman added, which are hydrologically connected, right now and will be
after this reconfiguration. She advised them is a transfer of water frorn one point, out of
the pumped well, to the surface water pond.
