-2-
The Commissioners reviewed the budget for the fiscal year 2012 ending this month.
Since we have funds remaining, Catherine Laurent will use them to purchase carpet
tiles to be installed in the Archives building after the renovation of the building is
completed, sometime in fall or winter of 2012. The estimated cost for the materials is
$2,968.
Our budget for fiscal year, 2013, consists of only $1000, plus the $4500 allotted for the
salary of the clerk.
Frank Lord informed us that the School House tours set up for Mashpee's 3rd grade
students have been completed. He will be at the School House during the summer
months to conduct tours on Thursdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm, and also by
appointment. We were reminded that the alarm for the School House still needs to be
set in the Archives building before leaving the school.
Old Business: We did receive a CPC grant in the amount of$3, 300 for scanning
equipment for scanning historical documents and to purchase a new computer, and an
additional $2000 for restoring maps and photographs.
New Business: Catherine Laurent updated us on the progress of the bids that have
been received for the renovation. The bids came in at approximately$100,000 over .
budget. They have added 2 additional alternate bid items, for a total of 5. One of the
cost-saving alternate items was instead of installing a new HVAC system, perhaps
replace with an electrical heating and cooling system. This would save money in the
short term, but the future costs to operate would be more. Catherine has been in touch
with Cape Light Compact who will look at the proposals to evaluate efficiency and
inform us of any rebates that might be available. She informed us that our building is
the only project under reconstruction at this time. The demolition of the interior of the
building will hopefully begin in August or September of this year. Selectmen feel that if
the bids come in again over $210,000, we should go back to the CPC to ask for more
funding.
We plan to scan the more than 100 chronological history cards, property of Rosemary
H. Burns, representing some of her research which she has done while volunteering at
the Mashpee Historical Commission for over more than 25 years.
Brian Hyde was appointed to the Historic District Commission at the Selectmen's
meeting on May 21, 2012. He was appointed to a one-year term to expire on June 30,
2013.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:00pm.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 12th.
