Washpee Yfousing.Authority
MEMORANDUM Leila Botsford, T..J(A
TO: Members of the Board E7cectttive Director
FROM: Leila Botsford
DATE: July 12,2001
In my evaluation dated May 2000,the board noted that improvement could be made in one area: Interaction and
communication with other agencies. A request was made that I strive for a"more aggressive Mashpee
voice/recognition." It was suggested that I get involved more in community, local, and state agencies. Since then,I
have joined various boards, committees and coalitions to help meet this goal. Below is a brief description of each of
them:
SMEDA(Southeastern Massachusetts Executive Directors Association): Secretary. All housing authority directors from
Southeastern Mass.meet monthly to discuss topics;problem solve, and share ideas for affordable housing. A monthly
speaker is invited to speak to the group. Some of the speakers over the past year have included: Attorney who specializes in
non-profit formation; Buyers Access—an agency that offers housing authorities excellent discounts when buying in bulk;
Legislative Forums;and DHCD roundtable discussions. I attend a second meeting each month as I am secretary of the board
which organizes and plans the meetings and events.
SHADO(Small Housing Authority Directors Organization): This group is for"small'housing authorities only. We
meet monthly to address common issues, problems, and challenges. We also update policies as a group to support
conformity. Topics over the past year have included: Grievance Procedure Policy Update;Legal Pilot Program issues;
Preventative Maintenance Schedules;Formulating a credit check group. .
UCDVC(Upper Cape Domestic Violence Coalition): Vice-President. This is a group of upper Cape(Mashpee,Bourne,
Falmouth,and Sandwich)social service providers,law enforcement officials,health-care providers,housing advocates,and
domestic violence specialists who meet monthly to address domestic violence on the upper cape and all topics related to that,
including housing. Sub-committees I was on this past year: The Elizabeth Lee Peach Award/Candle Light Vigil and the
Legislative Breakfast.
Mashpee Human Service Council: This is a group of Mashpee Human Service providers from several different agencies
including nursing homes, council on aging,Mashpee Village,Police and Fire Departments,WIC,Mashpee Good Neighbor
Fund,Wampanoag Tribal Council,and more.
CHOO(Cape Housing Officials Organization): This is a group of Cape Cod housing authority directors who meet to
handle cape-wide issues with regards to housing and to collaborate on some items(such as the Fair Share Housing Choice
Voucher Project).
CCNSC(Cape Cod Neighborhood Support Coalition): This is a small board which acts as a steering committee for the
coordinator of the coalition. The coalition is based in Mashpee and strives to guide neighborhood-based networks of support
for families and espgpiOly children.
Masbpee Affordable Housing Committee: Chairperson I was successful in getting the Selectmen to issue an article at
town meeting and form this committee. As chairperson I have contributed quite a bit of time.and work to get the committee
up and running. I have been to every meeting and feel that we are making great progress as we start outlining our goals,
mission, and chart of duties in order to deal with affordable housing in Mashpee.
I also am a member of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce,I have attended Mashpee Rotary, Town meetings, and as many
Pat Grace Seminars as my schedule allows.
7_7o6's Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA 02649
Tel:;: (508)477-6202 tFAX.
