There was no communication with the Town of Mashpee with regards to this action,
In response to the March 21, 2018 article Selectman Gottlieb indicated he has had communications with
Mark Forest and it was conveyed Forest, along with former congressman William Delahunt have been
acting on behalf of the Tribe, working with Keating"s Office to draft Ianuage for the hill.
Disappointment and displeasure was expressed as the Board of Selectmen has not been informed of this
action.
It was determined the legislation raises significant issues for the Town of Mashpee, and the Town is owed
an opportunity for input before the Reservation Reaffirmation Act moves forward. The lack of
communication has been a disservice to the Town of Mashpee.
It was noted the bill was filed on March)th two weeks before it became public. The Board of Selectmen
also met j o intly with the Mashpee wampanoag Tribal Council on March 511' and made it clear to the Tribe
the Town of Mashpee is willing to assist the Tribe, and this topic was not brought to the table, It was
agreed that something of this significance being withheld from the Board of Selectmen is not consistent
with the type of partnership the Town has been trying to achieve with the Tribe. In the lengthy discussion
with Marl-Forest it was stated the matter has been in the workforce for months without any information
being conveyed to Mafshpee Town Officials.
It was agreed a letter would be remitted to the Ma.shpce Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council regarding the
influence of the proposed legislation as it relates to the applicability of the Intergovernmental Agreement
(I ) between the Town and Tribe.
