I have been working with volunteer Art Show Coordinator, Janice Walingford,to
research options for purchasing a more user friendly system for hanging and displaying artwork
during monthly exhibits. Conversations with John Miller of the J Miller Gallery of Cape Cod
and the Walker Display Company are underway and we hope to have some cost estimates soon.
I believe purchasing a system with money donated by the Friends of the Library would represent
a long term investment and support the Library's role as a community and cultural center.
In order to meet the MBLC fall deadline for submitting an updated Long Range
Plan/Strategic Plan, work must begin this spring. Jack, Sue, and I have been reviewing the
process and laying groundwork for the upcoming months. I have already attended a day long
Strategic Planning Roundtable, and distributed the MLS handout for the streamlined Planning
Process. I will forward copies of the streamlined planning process again, which outlines roles
and possible timelines.
The following is a very general proposed schedule:
1. Review the Long Range Planning Overview to clarify roles and responsibilities.
2. Confirm Committee Members(10 maximum)--
Confirmed:
Jack Kowalski, Sue McGarry, Kathy Mahoney, Janet Trask,David Delvecchio,Ann
Bradshaw, and Terry Cook.
Pending Invitation:
Mary Jane Richardson(rep from Friends),Heidi Trottier(Chamber Member, Business
Owner, Board Member at CC Children's Museum), Linda Steele (Business Community)
Other.Names:
We may need some alternative names depending on what happens with some of the
pending or even confirmed names.
3. Establish Meeting Plan with Facilitator—Steve Brown was told last fall that we plan to
use him for the process. MBLC does not provide consultants to facilitate
processes/forums for individual libraries. MLS offers Roundtables and Resources for
library staff and personnel, but budget cuts have limited their ability to provide on-site
facilitation. Discussion of Options?
4. Hold Committee Meeting during the month of April
5. Create Community Survey—Jane has attached copies of plans with surveys included. I
have a few samples that of surveys that I have collected as well. The MLS process does
recommend that you not formulate your community survey prior to the Committee
performing a SWOT analysis, so that ideas generating during the SWOT process or even
during the Community Forum can be incorporated into the survey.
