November 21. A Hiring Freeze remains in effect and salaries should be budgeted <br /> to reflect step increases only at this point in time. All town contracts are subject <br /> to wage re-openers this year, and final salary figures will not be determined until <br /> latex date. <br /> On Monday, October 29, all town buildings were closed clue to the state of <br /> emergency declared in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy. I received notification <br /> from the town, and relayed the message to the staff. we had discussed the <br /> possibility f ars emergency closing and were well prepared and able to. <br /> communicate quickly and effectively with each other and our volunteers. During <br /> the storms., the building dict not suffer any notable damage, but one tree did <br /> topple. The tree was located on the strip ofproperty owned by Masee <br /> Commons and when it fell, it did considerable damage to the Dianna Smith <br /> memorial tree. Staff from the DPW Department cleared the fallen tree from the <br /> property. The Dianna Smith memorial tree is still standing, but should be moved <br /> and replaced next spring. The DPW has offered to assist in the purchase of a new <br /> tree, as they receive a discount from the town's provider. <br /> The Cape Cod volunteers were forced to cancel their launch program scheduled <br /> for the Event Room on October 30. Their event has been rescheduled for <br /> November 271 and they have asked the Library and Friends ofthe Library t <br /> participate. <br /> On November 1, I attended a half-day conference at the Osterville Library <br /> sponsored by the MLS, M LC, and CCILA. The conference offered two learning <br /> opportunities. The first focused on improving the user experience at the library. <br /> The second was designed to teach Staff, Friends, and Trustees how to successfully <br /> advocate for community support for the Library. <br /> On November 5, Claudia Hinkle began work as a pant-tine, town employee in the <br /> position' f Circulation Assistant. Claudia has been with the library in various <br /> roles for many ears and was the best choice for the open position. Fancy <br /> Youngquist is filling the role of contract Circulation Assistant, which is the <br /> position funded through the Library Donation account until June 30, 2013. <br /> Nancy is a retied employee of the Sandwich Library and has been working for <br />
