MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE ` REGULAR MEETING " MARCH 5, 1997 PAGE Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, to approve the above-named equipment as surplus. VO'I'D: In favor - Mr. Paxton,'Mrs. Mills, Ms. Macdonald, and Mrs. Lynch; Abstain - Mrs. Cook. "7.11 Bid Documents - Included in the packet was the bid document for the Replacement of Four Rooftop Gas Heating Units. These bids will be opened on Friday, April 25, 1997 at :00 p.m. in the office 'the Superintendent. 7.12 Memorial Day Program - Mgy 25, 1997, 2:00 p.m. - Dr. I eMoura said he has discussed this program with Bob Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan asked permission to have a memorial plaque placed on school property, preferably at the high school. Dr. 1eMoura had suggested a location that is equidistant between the two flagpoles. Mrs. Lynch expressed concern over the cost of the plague. Dr. DeMoura said a figure of$200 had leen discussed. Mrs. Lynch then asked 'Where the money would come from? Dr. I eMoura said he would have to find it in the budget somewhere. Motion made by Mrs. Lynch, seconded by Mrs. Mills, to approve a memorial plaque not to exceed $250-00 in cost. NOTE: Unanimous DTIII, 8.1 Renaming the High School T IVIS. Macdonald - Motion made by Ms. Specifically Macdonald, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, to rename.the high school from Assigned/ "Mashpee High School' to `lashp ee Junior Senior High School." Unfinished Ms. Macdonald explained her concerns stating.t.h t when the high school Business was initially proposed at Town Meeting, the taxpayers appropriated money a few years ago, they were told that junior high school students were going to a junior/senior high school. Dr. DeMoura said the state lased their funding of the high school on it being rare a "high school" not a "junior high school." IVIS. Macdonald said, "'The Junior high school kids meed an identity." A Student Council Advisory Committee member said a survey was taken among the Grade 7, 8 and 9 students. The results of that survey indicated that those students would prefer to keep the name "1ashpee High School" as i .
