MA SHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE -- REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 311997 PAGE 13 <br /> 9.3 Iiih School Late Buses — Dr. I e1 oura said the high school <br /> has requested five after-school routes for the 1997-1998 school <br /> year (the same as last year). This will result in three additional <br /> routes that must be added to the contract. The cost would be <br /> between $2,000- 3,000. <br /> Dr. DeMoura recommended these routes begin September 16, <br /> 1997 and continuing with last gear-s schedule. <br /> Motion rade by Mr. Paxton, seconded by Ms. Macdonald, to <br /> approve the Superintendent's recommendation. <br /> NOTE: Unanimous <br /> 9.4 Shannon Lee Proposal -- Discussed earlier in the meeting. <br /> .5 Special Education — 'Titin-In Students — Dr. Ielura briefly <br /> outlined the Committee on the possibility of tuitionin -in students <br /> from other school districts. Dr. IeMoura suggested for ulating a <br /> committee to discuss issues of inclusion., the establishment of <br /> criteria for students from from out-of-district as well as and other <br /> types of issues. Criteria would be brought back to the School <br /> Committee for their approval. <br /> Special Education Director Grace Darr addressed the School <br /> Committee'explaining the concept of tuitionin. -in" students <br /> stating we currently tuition out to other districts. <br /> Mrs. Cook asked why is this idea not a School Choice issue? Dr. <br /> I eM ura answered that special education programs do not follow <br /> School Choice mandates. <br /> Mrs. Mills asked about utilizing the Collaborative? Mrs. Day <br /> explained that public schools offer other programs that the <br /> Collaborative does not, and that the Collaborative works mainly <br /> with students who have very restricted reeds. <br /> Mr. Paxton suggested researching a revolving account for this <br /> program and at the same time investigate its cost effectiveness. <br /> The establishment of a revolving account would require Town <br /> Meeting approval. <br />
