REGULAR POLICE OFFICER <br /> 8. If assigned to operate a motor vehicle: <br /> a. Ensure vehicle is cleaned inside and out as per general order. <br /> b. Inspect the vehicle at the beginning of the tour of duty for any <br /> defects or missing equipment. Immediately report all defects and <br /> damages sustained to the vehicle to the proper authority and com— <br /> plete all reports and forms required by current procedures. <br /> C. Use only vehicles assigned by the Watch Commander. <br /> d. Use the call number assigned to the car to contact headquarters. <br /> e Operate the radio in line with FCC regulations and current Depart-- <br /> mental' procedures. <br /> f. When possible ensure that the assigned vehicle's gas tank is full <br /> prior to completion of each tour of duty. <br /> 9. Keep radio equipment on at all times and be familiar with Departmental <br /> policy concerning use of radio. <br /> 10. Take measures to *direct the flow of traffic in the area during periods <br /> of congestion. <br /> 11. Notify the Watch Commander if more than. a 'temporary absence from regular <br /> duties is required. <br /> D. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / TRAFFIC PATROL <br /> 1. Direct and expedite the flow of traffic at assigned intersections keep— <br /> ing in mind the duty as a traffic officer in preventing accidents, pro— <br /> tecting pedestrians and ensuring the free flow of traffic. <br /> 2. Enforce the parking ordinances and motor vehicle laws in the patrol area. <br /> 3. Be alert for traffic safety conditions.which may endanger or inconvenience <br /> the public and report such conditions through use of the Department chain <br /> of command. <br /> 4. Respond immediately when called from a traffic post to render emergency <br /> police service. Notify the station at the earliest possible opportunity. <br /> 5. Wear the prescribed traffic safety clothing and equipment while perform— <br /> Ing traffic details and other traffic related police duty assignments. <br /> PACE 4 of 4 <br />
