MA HPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
Tuesday, March 14, 1995
Page 10
there was not previously in the set marked March 8th. He stated that last minute they did
receive confirmation that in fact the exterior Flock can be both 2 hour and 3 hour rated. The
partition type is g and 11 do call for 3 hour rated perimeter of the auditorium so it was not on
their drawings. Joe asked if that meet the requirement for a free standing wall. Phil said it
was not a fire gall but a fire separation wall, so as a fire separation wall it is a single wide
wall. Shannon asked if the concept of the double wall was to increase the sound - why was
it a double wall. Phil said it was also to provide a flush condition on the inside. Tony
continued with commenting regarding the door schedule, the door holders. He said there
were some details that represented offset hinges where the magnetics were really no
specifications to it and that indicated off set type hinge on that detail and then the schedule
didn't indicate anything. This should be noted. Phil said all of the hold opens are called out
for in the hardware set. Item #19, the vapor Barrier on the exterior of the walls on the
details, how it continues around the jams of the windows and around the head of the
windows. Item # , Tony said the fire rating of the partition shows a half of a partition
through the backside - need to show continuation of the rating. Item #24, the ventilators,
Tony recommended showing more details around those showing the air tightness and the
method of the wood being attached and coordinate something on the duct work as well.
Tony reiterated Shannon's note of earlier regarding who was responsible for furniture and
equipment and the detail for the locker bases. Regarding item # 8 and # g, the locker
room slope floor - make sure the sloping is proper. Tong stated that under Mechanical,
there was two pumps that seemed to have a high head design and they might be noisy.
Item #30, the glycol, whether you put glycol in the system or you don't. once you put it in
the system you lose begin to lose efficiencies in the system and have to increase the size of
the pump. But, Tong said, if you don't put the glycol and the equipment is subject to fresh
outside air, you will freeze it. Paul asked where they were using glycol. Tong stated that it
was specified for the chill water system. Paul noted that he noticed that when they put
glycol in, a lot of the engineers don't size the expansion tank large enough. Glycol has a
much high expansion rate than water. Tony said that he felt the tank was large enough.
Paul asked if they are requiring any spare glycol to be left on the job. Tony said there was a
tank in the makeup as part of the system. Tony also suggested that they look at the type of
glycol they want to use. He did not recall what was specified. He said there were two
types, one of which was environmentally safe. Paul wanted to insure that this type was
used. He also asked if there was a procedure for purging the system. Tony did not recall
anything specific. Paul wanted to note to deal with the clerk to work on that issue.
Regarding item #31, Tong suggested that they put sound traps in the duct works to prevent
sound from traveling. He said the weight roam and the phys. ed. room were missing some
make up air registers. He stated that the ductwork in the shower room should be aluminum.
Regarding the condenser for the kitchen refrigerators, Tong could not find the location
where those would be. Regarding the fire alarm, Tony noted a dotted line on the entrance
and wasn't sure if that was the spot for the annunciator, the master box. Paul asked if they
did not have a master box} how did they signal the Fire Department. Phil stated through the
phone line and that they do not have a master box group system and so the only way doing
it is through a dialogue. This was discussed in a review between Sheldon and Raphael.
Tony noted need for some continuation of some circuitry as noted in item #36. He noted
that the generator size was not noted, was it tog or 250, Paul asked if they ever received a
response to what was on the generator. Phil stated that they did ask for that and that he
dropped the ball on that. Tony noted that in the cafeteria} did they want to provide some
additional emergency electrical outlets for area refuge. Paul stated that they would not be
using this building for civil Defense. Greg stated that in the rooms that were dedicated for
computer rooms, were there sprinklers in those rooms. Phil stated yes. Greg suggested
that they might want to speak with the Fire Department on that because many schools that
are, 100% sprinklered, it doesn't rake sense to put sprinklers in the rooms that have 20 or
