RE: Draft Minutes from August EOC Meeting Page 1 of 3
From: Andrew McManus<amcmanus@mashpeema_gov>
To: Jeri Clifford<capecodjcliff@aol.com>;JOHNJCAHAL4NE<JOHNJCAHALANE@AOL.COM>;g.petersen
<g.petersen@gseenv.com>; kanecapeside<kanecapeside@yahoo.com>;shellfish
<shellfish@ci_mash pee_ma_us>;ethies33<ethies33@msn_com>; peterawhite<peterawhite@excite.com>;
michael.t<michael.t@michael-talbot.com>;waygan<waygan@hotmail.com>
Subject: RE: Draft Minutes from August EOC Meeting
Date: Wed, Sep 11,2013 3:55 pm
Attachments: Quashnet sluices (2).JPG(5573K),Quashnet sluices_(5).JPG(5482K),
CCC fertilizer reg_endorse.doc.docx(113K)
Hi Jeri
The Partnership of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge (specifically MA State Fish and Wildlife and Waquoit
Bay Research Reserve/DCR)have been working on identifying candidate projects for 2 upcoming grant
opportunities from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. One grant is for projects that will improve passage and
habitat for Brook Trout and the other grant is for Atlantic Fisheries, specifically Alewife (river herring). Both
grant deadlines are fast approaching...Sept 30r"and 2CP respectively.
During a recent conference call with some of the partners and officials from US Fish and Wildlife,we identified
2 projects (possibly 3)that involve the removal of 2 old cranberry bog concrete sluiceways along the middle
stretch of the Quash net River. One of the sluiceways has already collapsed into part of the river while the
other is dangerously close to doing the same (see attached photos). We feel these are very good projects in
what is expected to be a highly competitive grant application process. What we are looking for is letters of
support, particularly from local environmental entities, both government and non-governmentally associated.
The Mashpee Conservation Dept will be reviewing the permits if the grant application is successful
Can you put this request for a letter of support on the agenda for the EOC meeting tomorrow night? I'll be
happy to answer any questions the members may have. I have a concom meeting tomorrow night so I cannot
attend the EOC, but if I'm out early enough, I will attend. The more letters of support we can get,the better
chance the grant application will be successful
Thank you to the board members in advance for their considerations
As an aside/FYI,we did submit a letter of support for the proposed DCPC/Cape Cod Commission fertilizer
regulations..it is attached to this email
Sincerely,
-Drew
Andrew R.
