One grant is for projects that will improve passage and habitat for Brook Trout and the other grant is for Atlantic Fisheries,specifically Alewife (river herring). Both grant deadlines are fast approaching...Sept 30r"and 2CP respectively. During a recent conference call with some of the partners and officials from US Fish and Wildlife,we identified 2 projects (possibly 3)that involve the removal of 2 old cranberry bog concrete sluiceways along the middle stretch of the Quash net River. One of the sluiceways has already collapsed into part of the river while the other is dangerously close to doing the same (see attached photos). We feel these are very good projects in what is expected to be a highly competitive grant application process. What we are looking for is letters of support, particularly from local environmental entities, both government and non-governmentally associated. The Mashpee Conservation Dept will be reviewing the permits if the grant application is successful Can you put this request for a letter of support on the agenda for the EOC meeting tomorrow night? I'll be happy to answer any questions the members may have. I have a concom meeting tomorrow night so I cannot attend the EOC, but if I'm out early enough, I will attend.
