If I see George at tomorrow's MEC board
meeting, I will thank him for his good work (once again) on behalf of the EOC.
This is also a reminder that I discuss the final Nitrogen Fertilizer Regulations with the BOH tomorrow night at
around 7 PM. I have attached the final regulations developed through Stakeholder meetings, as part of the
CCC process of implementing the DCPC. These regulations are quite generous to the industry, essentially
exempting professionals. However, they still provide the kind of regulations that can save the Town a lot of
money in sewering/wastewater management infrastructure, so they are very important to adopt before the end
of this year--our only chance to do so.
There has been some understandable reluctance by BOHs and their agents to adopt these regulations. The
concern about enforcement responsibility is understandable--and I believe I speak for the EOC in pledging our
help in making these regulations work for everyone.
Anyone who wishes to offer their support or weigh in can attend tomorrow night's BOH hearing. I think there is
a lot of support for doing this in this Town, but I want to be sure this is much more than just a BOH
regulation/responsibility. Education and advocacy are perhaps the most important components of this effort.
With about three-quarters of all fertilizer applications done by homeowners, it is most important to encourage
them to adjust their practices--and I think the appeal to saving money, enhancing our bays and ponds and still
being able to have a nice lawn will work.
Best regards.
