Page 39
of confidence and the national average of 2.5 people per home, with a 1,000-gallon interceptor tank,
pump-out intervals between 10 and 12 years aren't uncommon.
7) Are Orenco effluent sewers odorous?
Odors_are-notcommonin-well-designed and operated-Orenco_effluent_sewers_ystemsrasinterceptor-_ _
tanks naturally vent through building stacks, and mainlines are completely enclosed and watertight
throughout. As is the case when discharging grinder or any pressure sewer line into existing municipal
infrastructure, when discharging Orenco effluent sewer systems into municipal infrastructure, simple
control measures are necessary to combat odor and corrosion issues common with hydrogen sulfide.
8) Do Orenco effluent sewers have higher operation and maintenance costs compared to traditional
gravity sewer systems?
For more than 25 years, Orenco has provided sustainable wastewater solutions for communities, both
large and small.Although gravity sewers have a low initial 0&M cost, as system age, I&I (inflow&
infiltration of extraneous water), expensive R&R (renewal and replacement), expensive system failures,
SSO's (sanitary sewer overflows) and on-site lateral replacement have substantial cost implications.
Growing communities often offset these costs with new, low maintenance, connections. Small
communities with aging systems, conversely, typically lack the new connection in-flux to fund capital
improvement projects (i.e. failing infrastructure projects). Orenco effluent sewers and AdvanTex
Treatment Systems offer an affordable, low cost alternative with reduced operation and maintenance
and life cycle cost requirements. Substantial savings are common through reduced infiltration and
inflow, reduced biosolids production, reduced energy consumption and less costly collection system and
treatment system infrastructure.
9) What is the experience with access and easements for the tank on private property?
Access to property platted with Orenco effluent sewer technology typically includes easements for
operation and maintenance access. Recording easements for existing communities is often times
challenging, although service Tariffs, often used by power and phone companies, have been employed
successfully. Customers that insists on an easement can be accommodated by being charged the
expenses to survey and record an easement.
10) Can AdvanTex Treatment Systems be easily expanded to serve future
connections/development?
AdvanTex Treatment Systems, unlike other technologies, are modular in nature, allowing communities
to 'phase-in' treatment systems, resulting in capacity on demand. Communities anticipating growth or
service area expansion can easily install additional AdvanTex filters in parallel with existing
infrastructure to accommodate future connections, thus deferring up-front capital costs and operational
costs until growth or expansion occurs.
11) Can Orenco effluent sewers be upsized affordably to serve future connections/developments?
Orenco effluent sewers are easily oversized, due to the lack of solids in the main lines, to accommodate
future connections, at relatively low up-front and ongoing costs associated with conveyance
infrastructure. Because up to 85% of the cost of Orenco effluent sewers is associated with on-lot
equipment packages (STEP system), the cost to upsize/oversize conveyance system infrastructure, a
network of small diameter PVC or polyethylene pipe, is minimal ... typically a small percentage of total
project costs. Conventional gravity sewer collection systems, on the other hand, require expensive,
large diameter gravity mains that are costly to oversize and maintain and are the majority of the cost of
traditional sewer programs.
12) Can AdvanTex Treatment Systems be manipulated, in the future, to address more stringent
discharge limits?
As state and federal regulatory agencies continuously require wastewater systems achieve higher water
quality standards, although AdvanTex Treatment Systems consistently and reliably produce effluent low
