The area at the mouth of Great River got better by 30% on the way to the target.
We are growing more and continuing on. The Mashpee Watershed Nitrogen
Management Plan calls for 1 '/z million dollars' worth of shellfish seed at full
implement. Our dollar value is only at 10% of the total implementation but by
efficiency its more than that because we have gone to growing smaller seed
which is more efficient. Rick York stated the estuary project is one of a kind in
the country and in the world with that much technical detail. It has to be
emphasized that not all areas can be solved with shellfish. There are areas we
are planning to sewer and tie in to Otis with other towns and try to reduce
nitrogen in that way. Mr. York gave Ashley Fisher credit for this because she
has taken over the whole project and doing a great job,
The Chair suggested having a public event when its finished to let the public
know what is going on. It is important to get the word out to the public. We want
to get the word out to the public that it is working and we have made
improvements. He said he is confident that the area can be cleaned up with
quahogs.
IMA's with other towns; DRI Review: No Update
Planning for sewers; connections with private sewers: No Update
Mashpee Nutrient Control Bylaw; Update on AG Approval
The Chair noted he was recently informed that the Mashpee Nutrient Control
By-Law was approved in October. He stated that Conservation Department, the
Department of Natural Resources and Board of Health now have the right to
enforce this by-law. He will give more updates at the next meeting.
Town-Wide Stormwater Management Plan (including Santuit Pond): Update
Rick York explained there is an advisory for Santuit Pond due to the thick algae
bloom.
DNR and MEC (PALS) Pond & Estuary Water Quality Monitoring: Update
Ashley Fisher said she has scheduled the PALS testing for this month.
