The Director noted that she was introduced to the head of Drug Story Theater through
Mashpee Schools who wanted to do a community production at Mashpee Middle High
School of: The Price You Pay: Second Chances on August 21, 2018. This would be a
powerful educational tool for parents to hear about kids in recovery talking about their
journey.
The Mashpee Substance Use Task Force met yesterday and is asking the Human Services
Committee to approve a total of$802.56 to be spent on two Radio ads the day of the
September Drop-In Night, a sign and printing of the Drop-In-Night Flyers. The Director
handed out a list of members (attached)that were present at the meeting and proposed
that the two radio station ads, each$252 would total $504. The sign would be $75.00 and
another printing would be approximately $223.56, There was a lengthy discussion with
the Chair stating this was not the purpose the money was given for. It was not given as a
slush fund for advertisement. It was given for clinicians in the amount of$3500.
Motion: Veronica Warden moved to allow the Task Force Committee spend
$802.56 out of the budget for the promotion for the Drop In Night for two 2 radio
station ads a sign and printing of materials for marketing purposes. Seconded by
Lynne Barbee.
Lynne Barbee said anything we can do to let people know about this is really important.
Veronica stated it is imperative we let people know the change in location. Frank stated
the Drop In Night is very successful and this will be money well spent.
Vote 3-1 with Mr. Calahane voting in the negative.
Lynne Barbee noted there is Hyannis Open Streets on September 23 where different
groups will have a table and she will check to see if we are going to have a table and she
would volunteer to sit there.
Director's Report
The Director stated she met with Elizabeth Griffin, Chair of the Bourne Substance Free
Coalition and the Canal Region Chamber and Mary Lou Palumbo. They are interested in
duplicating the Business Forum the Task Force did in December 2017. They asked if
they could use our theme of"Let's Connect". It will be open to all businesses on Cape
Cod on October 25, 2018 at Cape Cod Tech. Also, the Business Subcommittee of the
Substance Use Task Force will be meeting to discuss outreach to local businesses to
educate about substance use disorder and give resources.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS
This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate
would be discussed.
