<br /> The library is located off Route 151 and Jobs Fishing Road, on Steeple Street, and was
<br /> built in 1987. The current size of the library is 5,200 square feet, with the children's area
<br /> (980 square feet) occupying the west wing and the adult area (1,620 square feet) the east
<br /> wing. The library is on one floor, which provides for handicap accessibility.
<br /> The circulation/information. desk (the lobby area, which includes the desk, is 720 square
<br /> feet is located centrally with access to staff areas. The office (204 square feet), work room
<br /> 272 square feet, staff room (130 square feet), and meeting room (480 square feet) are all
<br /> connected for ease of use by the staff. There is an entrance/exit to the outside from the
<br /> meeting room for the convenience of the groups using the facility. The children's area
<br /> and meeting rooms are located so that programming will not disturbuiet stud or
<br /> q y
<br /> re a ding *in the adult area of the library.
<br /> The number of people visiting Mashpee's library has been steadily increasing. Since FY
<br /> 1002, 7,000 snore people are now visiting the Library, up from 44,000 patrons to about
<br /> 51,000 in FY 1995,
<br /> Currently the library provides for 36 seats, including six tables for four and four carrels.
<br /> Eight seats are in, the lounge area. State standards call for 30 square feet per seat;
<br /> however, Mashpeels library has only about 113 of the seating space specified by these
<br /> standards. Stage standard's also call for 5 seats per thousand population. Using 1994
<br /> weighted population, the library should have 54 seats but is short 18 at this time.
<br /> Additional seating is needed to access electronic equipment, which includes the library's
<br /> �"Y
<br /> computerized. card catalog. Under the State Board of Library Commissioners regulations
<br /> (605 CMRspecial use space, such as that allocated to microfilm readers index tables,
<br /> computer work stations, is not included in calculations for required seating.
