Chapter 44EL 65 <br /> $240L510 for the purpose offunding the Garner Bogs/Upper Childs River Restoration Project <br /> including necessary costs and expenses related thereto, as recommended by the Community <br /> Preservation Committee, or take any other action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted bythe Community PreServation [omrnitt8e <br /> The Community Preservation Committee recommends approval of Article 7 by a vote of 7-0-1 <br /> Explanation: The goal ofthis project istpereadeacold'vvoterfisheryintheUpperChildsRiverand <br /> torestore the abandoned Garner and Farley cranberry bogs towetlands. The scope ofthis project <br /> encompasses approximately 40-acres of land and vve1er located in the Towns ofMashpee and <br /> Falmouth. The projectvvouldrehabilitate1.5nnilesoftheUpperChi@sRiverandrestore15.1acnes <br /> ofabandoned cranberry bogs inboth towns. <br /> The conservation and restoration project would provide recreational opportunities such as hiking, <br /> bird watching, nature viewing, and future catch and release fishing. With the restoration of the <br /> wetlands as natural water filtration system water quality would improve in the community <br /> watersheds. In the event of severe storms and sea level rise, the improved wetlands would act as <br /> water storage areas toreduce the effects offlooding. <br /> The Town Of K8ashp8e Board of Selectmen and its Town Meeting has agreed to a 30-vear lease of <br /> the 24.7aCre Garner Bog to the Falmouth Rod 8' Gun Club. The entire project lies within the <br /> MashpeeNational Wildlife Refuge, and the Town ofFalmouth has given unanimous support tothis <br /> project. <br /> The estimated construction cost is nearly $2 million. Over $750,000 in grant funding has been <br /> secured. The K4ashpeeCPA contribution would beused torehabilitate the Upper Childs River and <br /> restore the two Garner Bogs. <br /> The Board mfSelectmen recommends approval ofArticle 7bmavote mf3-0-1 <br /> The Finance Committee recommends approval mfArticle 76mavote of6-O <br /> Article 8 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to appropriate and transfer from the Community Preservation Fund <br /> 1096 Open Space/Recreation Reserve in accordance with the provisions wfK4.G.L. Chapter 44B, §5 <br /> $44,996 for the purpose of funding the Mmyhpee Community Garden Reconstruction project <br /> including necessary costs and expenses related thereto, as recommended by the Community <br /> Preservation Committee, or take any other action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Community Preservation Committee <br /> The Community Preservation Committee recommends approval of Article 8 by a vote of 6-1-1 <br />
