Minutes of Meeting of
Design Review Committee
Held Tuesday, March 5, 2019
Mashpee Town Hall Waquoit Meeting Room
The applicants and the committee members had a discussion on their points of view
regarding the esthetics of the present look and generational changes of"Cape Cod", but is
not necessarily the look for the Town of Mashpee.
Jon had no more comments. Joe wants the color toned down.
The committee recommended Mr. Mendoza, Building Commissioner make the final
decision on the new color for the sign.
Mr. Mendoza made a motion that the committee approve the revised sign which now
measures 76" x 10"which is now 5.2" sq. ft. with a condition that the color of Lovely Nail
Salon is brought back to the Building Department for final approval before issuance of a
permit.
Jonathan seconded. Miles wants carved wood.
Mr. Mendoza said that carved wood is up for future discussion.
Two are in favor, one opposed.
Other Business:Approve January 15,2019 meeting minutes,
Jonathan made a motion to approve the January 15, 2019 meeting minutes. Miles
seconded.All were in favor.
Additional topics
(This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate would
be discussed.)
Mr. Mendoza mentioned he would like the committee.to put together some guidelines for
both the committee and future applicants. Mike will put together a letter on behalf of the
committee, and will submit to the Town Planner, and in turn will.forward to the Planning
Board to start establishing some gateway ideas. For example;these areas will now require
these types of signs, colors, etc. There needs to be a good foundation to work with. The
best way to start is to establish what the gateway areas are in Town. His proposal is for
Mike to come up with a written description to bring before the Committee, open it up for
discussion for agreement. He will then forward to.the Town Planner, and then bring the
established foundation brought to the Planning Board which will go to Town Meeting. Mike
suggested an example that Rte. 130 have more wooden signs because of the mix of
business and residential. Ideas need to be submitted "piece-mail' to avoid being
overwhelmed by the details of the guidelines.
Miles likes the carved wooden signs not only because they look better, and might provide
more businesses to the local merchants. He also said that downtown Falmouth has a good
look. He has concerns regarding brand name and trademark signage and how they affect
the community. He would like the committee to be able to reconfigure these corporate signs
to fit the esthetics of the gateway areas, but there could be legal stipulations,
4
