The Town will receive <br /> payment for the material. The current amount paid is$100 per ton. This payment will <br /> help offset th-e transportation costs associated with its recycling. <br /> Newspaper New' spaper will be tipped at a recycling facility in Westport or Mansfield. <br /> Separation of newspaper from mixed paper is recommended as newspaper has a value <br /> while mixed paper will have a tip fee. Based on feedback from other Cape towns; more <br /> than Y2 the paper collected from their residents is newspaper so separation of the two <br /> makes sense economically. The current amount paid for newspaper is $65 per ton. <br /> Mixed Paper As mentioned above,there is a tip fee for recycling. The current fee is$50 <br /> perton. <br /> Plastic Plastic#147 will be tipped at a recycling facility in Mansfield (rigid plastic will <br /> continue to be collected separately). The current fee is <br /> $40 per ton. <br /> The above separation requires the purchase of additional roll off containers and reconfiguration <br /> of the recycling area. The three compactors currently used for single stream would be used <br /> instead for cans, mixed paper, and plastic. FY20 <br /> sticker sales start June 1St <br /> . <br /> Pros and Cons <br /> The proposed recycling changes minimize the cost to the Town for recycling while trying to <br /> minimize the amount of separation users will have to perform. The Town is still obligated to <br /> comply with MA DEP's waste ban regulations and with the changes,the overall cost to the <br /> Torn wil-I be less than that for trash disposal. <br /> The Implementation plan and four month schedule proposed allows time for required <br /> modifications to the recycling area, for permitting if necessary,for grant application to help <br /> offset costs, and for education of users. In addition, the actual changes to the program will be <br /> introduced over several weeks with a "soft" roll out which will allow staff to directly interact <br /> with users in the recycling area to explain the changes with full implementation in place prior to <br /> the busy July 41h week. <br />
