Sherman <br /> RE: Agenda Item Request for July 22, 2019 Board of Selectmen meeting <br /> Description <br /> Discussion and Approval of Issuing a Request for Proposals for Development of Town owned <br /> Property on Commercial Street <br /> Background: The Town owned property at Commercial Street was zoned to attract a hotel and <br /> there is no market for a hotel, so the land sits vacant. Given the housing needs that have been <br /> expressed the assessment of interest in what is possible on the site could guide future decision- <br /> making. <br /> Recommendation <br /> It is recommended that the Board of Selectmen vote to issue an RFP to gain an understanding of <br /> the interest in the property and what the market could support for workforce housing. <br /> Pros and Cons <br /> The Pros are that the town has this property in a developed area, there is a need for workforce <br /> housing, there is public transit through the RTA, a developer could offset some of the costs of <br /> needed wastewater infrastructure at the site. <br /> The Cons of finding out more information are not apparent. <br />
