Terrie Cook
Subject: FW: Seconsett Island
Date: August 5, 2019 at 6:04 AM
Subject: Seconsett Island
To Town Manager Wayne Taylor E mail wtaylorQmashpeema.gov
From Stephen F. Colella, Seconsett Island.
I am writing regarding the issue of both the parking situation, and use of a small beach on Seconsett Island:
Recognizing that the area is used for multiple activities and the parking available is a finite resource, it is a
difficult problem but one that needs to be addressed in some form. Perhaps a town authorized sign indicating
the following,that the beach:
• is for Mashpee residents only,
• and for mooring permit holders only to access their boats.
I think this would be a positive first step and one that enforcement could be tied to. Stickers might help, but
enforcement would need to be part of that equation as well.
There is little room to start with, especially, given that the beach is small and is compounded by people
accessing their mooring with their small boats and motors. Those from Seconsett Island who want to walk or .
drive to the beach are often squeezed out by the above listed activities as well as those who park while shell
fishing. I and others have seen people park at the beach and go off in a boat that is not from that mooring field
as well as people with Falmouth stickers on their cars use the beach. Again, I believe a sign is a positive first
step in attempting to curtail improper use.
On another issue I would like to see the speed limit reduced during the summer months at least to 20 MPH
from 30WH on this stretch of road for the safety of pedestrians walking to the beach or crossing from parked
cars.
Thank You Again
Stephen F Colella
1
