Dam
i
Town Clerk,
Date: November 1, 2019
Re: 2020 Election Schedule/Early Voting
As you will agree, next year's elections may go down in the history books as the year that
Massachusetts saw close to 100% voter turnout. In 2020, the Town of Mashpee will have a
minimum four elections; the Presidential Primary in February and the State Primary in mid-August
will have a week of early voting. The Presidential Election in November, however, will have a
minimum of eleven days of Early Voting. In addition to normal working hours, there will also be
evening and weekend sessions to vote early.
Early Voting in Mashpee will operate from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for the two primaries and the
November election.
In order to accommodate Early Voting through the three election cycles, both the Waquoit and
Ockway meeting rooms will be set up to accommodate the process. As it is always unpredictable as
to what the daily turnout will be, I am confident that the turnout will be huge.
As you can see from the attached calendar, operating Early Voting will impact a number of boards
and committees and it is my desire to work proactively with all boards and committees to
reschedule their meetings during this timeframe. One of the logistical concerns that I have is
breaking down all of the voting booths and resetting the layout in these two rooms in order for the
meetings scheduled to take place. While Early Voting may end at 4:30 pm the town is obligated to
keep the doors open until the last voter in line has cast his/her vote which could conceivably mean
that we are operating at hours beyond the normal timeframe; and herein lies the problem.
I ask that you and all boards and committees reschedule any meetings that might conflict with Early
Voting in 2020.
